Sane left out of Germany World Cup Squad

IN Germany we are calling it a scandal Right now . Sane is the most talented Player we have snce 10 years

Gutted.

At least he is young and his time will come again. Amazing decision. Look at some of the players in that squad especially the forwards. Thomas Muller has been rubbish this season for bayern, yet he's in the team. I think the German coach must have a personal issue with him because it can not be a footballing decision.

Oh, maybe he has been a little big mouth somewhen. Atleast you could interpret Kroos (and no, he is not a Bayern player) interview after the Brazil match in which he said something like some of the second row talk big but did not show it with their performances - Gündogan and Sane had a really bad match then.

There could be some factors.

The system does not help Sane with a leftback that is left footed that is supposed to cover the wing whereas the left winger is better a right winger that goes inside. Kroos is the left of the midfield pairing and is mainly the playmaker on his side of the pitch so there usually aren't this isolated one-on-ones he shines in for city.

His performances were bad. He did not shine offensively, lost the ball very often and did not work well defensively.

And it is not that he is that exceptional in his club career that he is better than others so you would think about adapting the system to really accomodate him - that is more difficult in a national team than for a club. Reus has the same numbers whenever he stays fit and Müller about the whole of his career - this season despite his time with Ancelotti he might have 2 goals and an assist less - but played 500 minutes less.

The decision at the end was about him or Brandt. Both until now did not really cut it for the German team but Brandt usually was used on the right (even if I think that if Müller is sick Draxler would play) when Müller could not play. He has a higher workrate and does not lose the ball so easy. Reus and Draxler were used on the left wing.

And maybe a soft factor - last year he skipped the ConfedCup because of a nose job that could have done later on. He did big parts of his tattoo during then, too. Yes, Löw rested the established players for this second rate tournament - but Sane could have secured his place in the team with good performances there.

Draxler has also been poor in a weak French league for PSG. It's a hell of a gamble for Germany. Mario Gomez has got in as a striker FFS. They look like a very slow squad and will struggle to break down strong defences.

Well, could you name alternatives for the right wing for Muller then?

Left wing is overloaded, right wing is a huge problem, as you have indicated.
It was Brandt's luck to cover the right wing.
 
In fairness he hasn’t lit it up in his games for Germany.

Still, that’s a huge noose around Low’s neck if it doesn’t work out for them.

Yeah, because he was in the 2016 squad it gives the superficial impression that he has gone backwards or done something wrong and we know that's not the case. Gutted for him and I hope he sees it as challenge to prove it was a big mistake leaving him out. He is free to have a whine for a month or so though as that has just got to be devestating to handle.
 
As far as I'm concerned that means at least one of our best players will be ready to start in August.
 
Like most things in life, i don't get it. Very strange not to have such a lethal player in your squad, some would say it's madness. Fair enough if Low just does not use fast wide players but this is pushing the limits of boldness and knowing what you want for me, he is to good to not at least be an option imo.

Good for City and prolonging your career a bt maybe but i just feel sad for Leroy, he will be gobsmacked i would imagine unless he knows Low very well and knew he was likely not to go.
