Sane left out of Germany World Cup Squad

This is the last world cup for nearly half the German squad.
They are playing poorly yet can still defend well. Up front, Gomez is over the hill and Reus is not the player he once was (indeed it could be said that he is an injury looking for a place to happen), whilst Werner is bang average. Muller is the key - If he continues to be relatively poor Germany will fail to convert draws into wins. Of course Germany win penalty shoot outs by defaul but it really isn't the German squad of 4 years ago.
Ozil in midfield as another example...

When the reason for dropping Sané was the team factor, we should be prepared to see Low trying to prove his decision right.
I wouldn't be completely surprised if they will have a powerful opener vs Mexico.

If then the German ship is under full sail the team spirit will be a huge factor, even or especially with a squad that seems to be mediocre on paper.
The history is full of reasons to believe in that. It often has worked well somehow.

Realistic target as usual are semi finals. The rest will be decided on daily form.

David Silva brings out the best in Leroy with the option of fast, tight interplay supported by others. Sane has shown to be a sublime striker of the ball including amazing volleys in space. He is not a straight up and down wing back and Löw has played safe.

Germany do not play to his strengths so he is restricted, isolated and limited. Leroy will improve but Germany needs to change. Löw has gone with players who served him well in the last competition in a proven formation. The game has moved on and Pep style football is proving succesful. No accident that Southgate has built his England side around City players and it is proving successful. Brasil the same.

Neither Ozil nor Gundogan bring out the best in Sane so Germany are commited to a style of play that may be found out and they have nothing new to offer. Sane is a wildcard potential matchwinner that needs support.

@spiny
Tbh, I don't quite get your points mate.

Germany don't play "straight up and down" wingers at all.
They try to control the game in possession, attack a bit slower than City but very often try to play deep passes down the channels.
Sané is a perfect receiver with his pacey runs and great ball control.
Ozil or Reus, also Gündogan are able to play those passes, much more Kroos, Boateng and Kimmich from deeper positions.

But most of all you try to indicate that Leroy was by far not responsible for his soso performances.
Had you seen him fuck up every single perfect counter situation against Austria you maybe would agree he should ask himself some questions.

So many more points that don't make much sense. No idea what German matches you have seen.

At least we agree on Sané as a superb player I guess.
