Sarah Everard murder | Wayne Couzens given whole-life sentence

Yeah ok.

Was wondering when that would be said. Like the other day when #notallmen was trending.

For some men, it has to be all about them. Even in this thread it has to be about them. Ultimately, what a lot of women will think, feel or say is only acceptable if such men approve of it. Women cannot express themselves in an ‘unacceptable way‘ and if they do there will be push back.

These men will define how women should feel, set parameters of what they can say. It’s a form of coercement.

It‘s the same with BLM or footballers taking the knee, no matter the reason given for the expression or the gesture, many find it unacceptable, hence you get #alllivesmatter or in this case #notallmen.

Whilst I get where you are coming from, I’m not sure what you want me to actually do.

I‘m empathetic to women’s vulnerability and the mental anguish that this causes.

I’m very much anti-harassment and anti-rape/murder(if I need to spell it out). I’m also extremely anti-predator.

If I saw anybody in trouble, I would try to help.

It feels like there is a campaign where we have to say it’s a problem and there are lots of posts highlighting scenarios where women feel uncomfortable.

What is being achieved?

We know we aren’t in a perfect society.

We know that a fraction of men create these problems.

We know that women feel threatened as a result of this.

My guess is that the vast majority who has posted in this thread hasn’t harassed a woman. The ones that have aren’t going to admit to it.

I think we’ve had enough posts about it being a problem. The question is, what do you do to change things?

You may be a threat to women so fill your boots identifying with Couzens but don't project your guilt onto others.

This is a horrifying case but it's no more valid to generalise about the police or men because of it than to generalise about women or nurses because of Beverley Allitt.
