Sarah Everard murder | Wayne Couzens given whole-life sentence

Sorry but that is an awful even disgusting post. To compare the two events, the policing of a demonstration to the murder of someone and come to the conclusion you have is beyond belief.
No it isn't.

Couzens was only able to kill Sarah in the way he did because he was a police officer. Police procedure directly allowed him to carry out his crime. He showed her his police badge to gain her trust, he used police COVID restrictions to force compliance, he used police handcuffs to arrest her, and he stuffed her into the back of a police car. Passers-by have admitted that they didn't act because all they saw was a police officer arresting someone. And before Sarah even walked past him on that night, failure at an institutional level allowed Couzens to continue carrying his badge, his handcuffs, and his weapons despite being under investigation for sex-related offences already.

But even before we knew this, the behaviour of police at Clapham Common was unnecessarily heavy-handed and violent. Now we know the facts of how Sarah was murdered, you have to wonder what's currently going through the heads of the 9 women who were being held in police custody by Couzens' colleagues. Colleagues who knew of Couzens' history of indecent exposure, by the way, and jokingly referred to him as "The Rapist" while he served as a police officer. How are women expected to trust police officers ever again after this? How are women expected to trust the police as an institution when they allowed somebody like Couzens to not only continue working on the force despite his past behaviour, but let it linger long enough that a woman was murdered by him?

Couzens wasn't some random sicko who dragged a woman off the street, he was a police officer who abused power that he knew he had. And the women who were beaten around and wrongfully arrested by male police officers in Clapham, during a fucking candlelight vigil for someone who was murdered after being literally wrongfully arrested by another male police officer in Clapham, had every right to attend that vigil and now have every right to claim any damages they want. You have to be seriously fucking dense not to see the parallels here.

What Couzens did was sickening, disgusting and should draw a whole life term, he should never see them light of day again. Police officers used their skill knowledge and training to bring him to justice.
You have made very political comments about a so called peaceful demonstration where women were spat at, abused, assaulted all because they wore a uniform and were looking to uphold the law.
Take your stupid abuse (last line) to a quiet room and think about what you have put. One sick individual in a uniform has nothing in common with ordinary men and women doing their job as police officers upholding the law.

Actually he has a lot in common with a lot of police officers.

OK Bob I am not going to respond after this as you clearly have a political and perverted view of the police so I will leave you to be eaten up by your hatred.

You assume incorrectly!

I believe in the idea of a police force. I'm generally centrist when it comes to basic hierarchical structures of power and governance. I don't want a violent revolution, I prefer order and reform.

But I also believe that rivers of racism and misogyny run through the police force as it exists, and that trusting such a broken and corrupt institution to "serve" us is a dangerous game for society to play.

Wayne Couzens is not an accident.

This is just beyond sick.......I am anti-death penalty but there are some for which I can make an exception......this poor girl

Its horiffic. I feel for her poor family and friends who have to listen to the sickening accounts of her last day. Hope the **** gets his in prison

Genuinely upset today hearing some of the details. The poor girl must have been terrified. Sounds like he was scouring London for a victim for a couple of hours, and she was just wrong place wrong time.
The fact he was a serving police officer makes it seemingly worse, however I’m pretty certain 99.9% of the Met will be equally horrified by the events of that night.
My heart goes out to her family and friends. How do you ever come to terms with what’s happened?

RIP Sarah

Not going to get involved in the wider stuff about domestic abuse, racism etc.

But this is the key part of it. Had the police taken action to suspend him earlier and take away the cuffs and the badge his MO would have changed, maybe to the point that he didn't actually attempt it because he no longer believed he could pull it off and get away with it.

Whilst you can buy Hiatt speedcuffs online, and Couzens spent great deal of planning the attack, so we can assume he could have replaced his police issue cuffs, it's less likely he could have obtained a fake warrant card.
