A fitting end to his managerial career. Finishing bottom of the Saudi Pro league.
There's a rag fan I often bump in to when out shopping. For years he's been giving me the full Mecca Bingo call over City's finances, Abu Dhabi, Middle East politics etc. Now, with a Saudi bid in the offing, he was "Never bothered about human rights", "Got no problem with the money", "Thinks FFP is a joke"The HYS section in the BBC website on thus story is great. All the sad twats that have for years trotted out the same racist comments about middle East money are now doing mental gymnastics and defending slippy for taking the dirty oil money.
We have lost Jota to the Saudi oil money. £25m which we couldn’t turn down. To put that kind of money into perspective, for winning the Treble and Sky money combined we made about £7m. Jota is only 24 and will be paid a reported £10m each year of his two year contract. Money that secured him and his family, and he knows he still will be only 26 when he moves.
We are all sad to see him go, but recognise that with this money and the amount we had, will help the team improve. The bottom line is every single foreign player who comes to us does so to get somewhere else. That’s just the way it is. We will never have a settled long term team as this isn’t how it works. Players who do well move to bigger leagues where the money is.
The Saudi experiment is based on financial security. I don’t agree with the regime, but let’s face it, after my recent leg break they weren’t going to challenge my principals with a massive offer. The cunts. Good luck Jota and thank you son. Please get yourself another big move at the end so we can get a slice of that too. Ta.
Crazy stuff I do miss nuno though
If we are talking about free market, what's the problem with that? What is coming, is coming....
Saudis is gonna make the transfer market upside down, starting from this summer. this is the biggest issue, i believe, at least for relatively smaller clubs at the moment.
At the moment, they are offering icardi (gala player last year, the hero) EUR100mio or something, which is an amount impossible to compete. UEFA should take action. but they will not; as we know.
Why has Saudi sovereign fund taken over kingdom’s football clubs?
As more star players arrive, country announces launch of investment and privatisation project in bid to grow sport.www.aljazeera.com
Yeah. It's not a surprise that even the younger acquisitions are only signing three-year contracts. When was the last time you saw a Premier League club sign a 26 year-old for nearly 50 million and not give at least five years?Get in, get paid, and get out.
Get in, get paid, and get out.
I can understand players joining the MLS as you get to live in and travel around America which is a wonderful country. But is it possible to enjoy Saudi Arabia. Not least of all the dangers facing female relatives who might accompany the players going over there. Thats the core reason why Saudi football will fail. The country itself is backwards.
They dont even let women play football in the country because it reveals the knees and ankles.
Universal translator will boil over in minutes laaSteven Gerrard has been named manager of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
