And the clauses you mention are exactly what I`m talking about in the specific targets set to be achieved at specific points in time. If come the end of the season he has not met his targets he will be gone on reduced "compo".
If they were to sack him now then they would be in breach of contract. He could potentially sit on his arse for another 5 years while they pay him. More likely there would be an arrangement, the size of the "compo" would then be decided by solicitors freeing him up to take employment elsewhere.
This could be a re-run of the Fulham/Muelensteen saga.
