Barclay was a damn good writer in the 80s Independent newspaper, and i think headed up the football writers dept..working alongside Joe Lovejoy etc...it was smart intellectual cutting edge, journalism ..a very good team,imo.. He ...used to talk up City under Mel Machin,was clearly very impressed with Lakes potential ,and would wax lyrical at the drop of a hat about how talented our youngsters were back then.
But we were no threat to anybody at that time.litte old City.......i (more fool me) actually thought The independent meantt just that,no bias .just straight down the line reporting..and i still think,as a whole the paper was a gud un...but watching that bastard barclay ,over the years...its clear where his sympathies lie...and how much the turnaround in fortunes of the two clubs is upsetting him..cant stand to hear him speak now..used to read him every day 30 yrs ago.
