Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

£80m is the Rodrygo fee.
That is very optimistic. There have been various reports, mostly around the €100m mark. Even so, it is not a simple like for like comparison.

Say we get him for even the hopeful lowest possible end of 80m. And sell Savinho for the high end 65m.

Savinho is reportedly on 40k a week, and Rodrygo on 240k a week at RM. We would likely have to at least match that, if not exceed it due to the uk tax increases.

That's us 25m down just for the coming year, and another 40-50m over the length of his contract.

And that's before considering we paid 25-30m for Savinho just last year, so the sale value needs to take a portion of this out.

It is a much bigger financial outlay of a move, for the club to replace him, than people make out. Which is why they are asking for a price that makes it worth their time.

I do think our squad would be more balanced with Savinho rather than Rodrygo.

I think with Haaland, Marmoush, Foden, Cherki, Reijnders and Bobb you have plenty of options who can create and score from more central areas, which is probably Rodrygo's biggest strength. He's not a touchline winger.

Doku and Savinho offer something different in their ability to stretch the game by staying out wide and using their pace 1v1. Yes, they both need to improve their numbers. But I do think that if Savinho can add goals to his game like Vinicius Jr, who couldn't hit a barn door when he arrived at Real, he can be a world beater.

Having said that, I'd only be happy to keep him if he wants to be here. If he's happy to knuckle down, put a smile on his face and work, and justify the faith that Pep and the club have put in him.
Your final paragraph sums it up. He does want to go since why would Tottenham approach us without Savinho authorising his agent to initiate?

Ballague is probably right. City have told him that he will stay on the back of Spurs trying to low ball our valuation or talks with Spurs have ended.

I'm happy either way.

Savinho has all the tools to become a World Class player. He just needs that end product. It will come. He's only 21 and people forget this.

Rodrygo is going to demand 300k a week here and he's going to cost us 80-100m. He's going to come here and then we will have a situation where Marmoush and Foden sit on the bench on monster wages. Savinho staying keeps the squad happy imo. Player on low wages who plays less games than Rodrygo would.
You seem to exclude one of the most important parts of this, what if Savinho himself isn’t happy? Wants higher wages and we aren’t prepared to offer the wage increase?
