Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

Many base their judgments almost entirely on personal impressions and vibes. I posted several times that last season Doku had more goal involvements per 90 than Cole Palmer and Rodrygo (shocking stuff, I know). It's very easy to check with AI.
Can't say that I had noticed ;-)

Well now that I have seen it for myself, I won't forget it again.

Sell Savinho and get Kubo if Rodrygo deal is too expensive!

That’s selling and buying for the sake of it. I’m not even sure Rodrygo is an upgrade on Savinho (especially at the price mooted) never mind Kubo.

Unless something genuinely brilliant (see Donnarumma opportunity) comes along and presents itself then I don’t see why we should sell Savinho.

Still, funny to string Levy along for a little bit first.

My view as well mate.

This needs to be right for us, from a squad planning perspective as well as commercially.

I just don’t see anyone outstanding in the market at the moment that would warrant selling Savinho to bring in - not Rodrygo, and definitely not Kubo - so personally I’d prefer that we kept him.

We’d be weaker if we made either of those moves, in my opinion.

Since Doku is often mentioned in the thread for his lack of productivity, here's a shocking stat for last season (calculated by an advanced AI model, based on data from transfermarkt):

Minutes per non-penalty goal-involvements in all club competitions:

Palmer - 151
Doku - 139

Incredible :)
Palmer did a brilliant impression of a hologram for a large part of last season. His first season at Chelsea, he was pretty much an unknown quantity. But opposition sides seemed to get wise to him last season.

Absolutely. Teams now pay special attention to him, maybe he's lost a bit of form as well. 4 (3 non-penalty) goal-involvements in the last 18 PL games is poor.

Not a lot to be frightened about from Chelsea tbf. Give any of their other attackers any space and it’s probably going into the stands. Double up on Palmer to shut him off completely

To be fair to him, he had an outstanding first season at Chelsea. Ask any of his legion of fanboys on here, they'll confirm it.

;-)

It was always going to be a tall order to replicate that 23/24 season.

You are correct.

Palmer: 11 goals from open play and 8 assists in 3195 minutes. 5.9E-03 goal involvements per minute.
Doku: : 3 goals and 6 assists in 1513 minutes. 5.9E-03 goal involvements per minute.

The explanation is that when we look back at the headline goals and assists we forget that Doku did not play many minutes.
A general perception and one I would support is that he is most effective as a substitute, not sure if the stats back this up but he does seem to thrive when given more space and time. Last Saturday he was surrounded and isolated and it was harly surprising that he struggled.

Agreed. We should only be selling and replacing if it's a clear upgrade, otherwise it's just pointless.

Id replace Savinho with Rodrygo though, I do think he's better.

Why is a player a coward for wanting out? I don't get it.

I expect Savio and others who aren't guaranteed starting spots to consider all their options.

Capito wanted out for 4 years, yet here he is with the band.

Evaluating all your options is a good thing... For club and players!!!
