Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

So it seems everyone can see this bar Guardiola. This won't end well, I tell ya...
It'll end when he decides it's time. And if you believe the rumours before his last extension "even I didn't know I was going to extend" and that was in the November. 8 months before his contract expired. Personally, I think that's unsustainable

Re: Haaland, I disagree. Even the much-maligned Sergio Gomez managed to get on the outside and pick out Haaland in the box. He assisted him a surprising number of times.

I see your point, but that Haaland was an animal moving all over the box, smashing defenders out of the way, going near post, far post. His movement was impeccable, I fear it's all got a bit stodgy since.

I think a big part of it is after our bad patch we got terrified of doing anything quickly or off the cuff in case it created a transition against us.

All good observations, but I'd argue Haaland's stodgy movements may be linked to a sterile playing style that's typified by inverted wingers making bad decisions and executing poorly.

Business doesn't work like that mate.

His time at City will end if Pep decides he's done OR if the piper stops playing the tune, whether Pep's decided to leave or not.

I'm sensing too many things that are beginning to add up to more than mere coincidences...

Fair, a bit of a vicious cycle really.

We need to get over being so ultra safe and look for attackers earlier because I'd rather it was Haaland in behind, or foden/doku/cherki/sav/bobb/marmoush against isolated defenders than waiting for 10 men to pack their own box while we politely pass around in the horseshoe shape.

it'll only get worse without Eddie's distribution too, unless we change.

Spurs are also looking to buy Paz from Como who are asking for €70m.
Maybe we went a little low in our valuation of Perrone.

Business shouldn't work like that but Pep has had full control of his tenure from the start. Khaldoon even said it one of his end of year interview's (no, I don't know which year).

The piper in this instance still can't believe we've got Pep as a manager and will do all it can to keep him as long as possible

Paz is a super talent, Madrid have a 10m buy back and 50% sell on so Como getting 35m probably not worthwhile and I doubt Madrid let spurs have him!

Huge book profit on Savinho, whatever the fee is for Rodrygo spread out over his contract. So how doesn't the finances add up?
Because it’s all based on how the deals were/are structured (payments) and how we get to account for those payments for FFP/PSR purposes (amortization). It’s not “write a cheque for Savinho” and us turning around and saying “here’s a cheque for Rodrygo,” no matter how much you think we are booking on a Savinho sale.

These are long-tailed financial decisions that have to be weighed with other long-tailed financial decisions, not just “here and now” calls on “trading” one player for another.

Another interesting fact is Khaldoon saying our squad rebuild should've started last summer. Pep admitted he was offered the opportunity to commence our rebuild, but he declined. Why? This was an obvious error of judgement which cost us dearly.

In any business, people are judged on results. History only comes into it when being given a bit of leeway, as no one can be correct 100% of the time.

However, Pep turning down the rebuild request last summer, our resulting mid-season collapse, Pep's backroom staff being effectively fired & Soriano reportedly personally blocking Savinho's move to Spuds looks more than a coincidence to me.

I could be wrong & it could all be a coincidence, but it could just as easily be a shot across Guardiola's bow that continued failure won't be tolerated.

You're only as good as your last campaign, & in that respect City's was a total disaster by our standards, & that's before you factor in the strange team selection for the FA Cup final & our capitulation against Al Hilal in the CWC.

If we have a repeat of last season without any signs of progress, the only option that could be open to Guardiola would be to fall on his sword, before he gets thrown on it. Business is business mate...

I’m well aware.

The reports are it’s going to be anything around 70/75m upfront with a few million in add ons so for PSR purposes it’s about as good as you can get.

Rodrygo would be similar cost most likely but the amortisation is across a likely 5/6yr contract.

What point are you making, You don’t think City can afford Rodrygo?

I also thought our game was damaged by Trafford. His short distribution was painfully slow, and his long distribution was very inaccurate.

I’ve noticed that, he got caught a couple of times against Palermo and against Wolves and then again on Saturday. Doesn’t sort his feet out enough quicker. That or he’s trying too hard to be calm.

But I seem to remember it was similar at Burnley.

Brave comment after Saturday. They looked a lot better than City.

We are their cup final. I have no idea why. Perhaps our slow style and weak physique plays into their few strengths. It should be against Arsenal or Chelsea, but they usually take it up the arse for them.

Then, almost every season they turn into prime Barcelona to play us, then revert to Spursy for the rest of the season. Like some really frumpy woman who always dresses scruffily, then just once a year does her hair, make up and puts on a little dress. Spurs are the ugly woman of the PL.
