Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

Rice didn’t want City. Wirtz didn’t want City. Guehi doesn’t want City.
Given that’s true, there’s not really a lot you can do about it.

I'm not sure Guehi at 4 years older is any better than Khusanov right now.

Cherki and Reijnders were two of the best players in Europe last season its like Viana is being punished for getting them on decent deals.

Zubimendi, Gyokores and Ekitike are actually much closer to being over priced buys for B-tier players.

He had a great debut at Chelsea until he was carried off on a stretcher.....but available for the next game :)

I got more and more frustrated with him as the season went on ( to be fair it was also with the rest of the team)

I am not sure either him or Doku are ever going to be at the consistent level required but do our tactics actually help our wingers ?

We had Sane and peak Sterling in the past, but they didn't play in the inverted full back set up.

Someone mentioned earlier the amount of goals we scored from 'cut backs' which was a typical City goal.

The wide men have got to play on their favoured side ( right side or left ) to enable the cut back.

Surprising at how many posters bemoan his numbers. Pep plays his wingers very very wide, leaving space for midfielders and full backs to attack the space left (half space) between the defensive fb and cb, a bit like the space Rico got into for the first Haaland goal. This was created by Bobb staying wide. Our wingers aren't used as traditional wingers, they are used to create space.

Biggest thing for me with this was I wasn’t particularly sold on Rodrygo being a huge upgrade, especially considering the wages that’d have been involved.

I’m not convinced about Savio, but there were fleeting bits from last season that make you think there could be a top level player in there, consequently no harm whatsoever in telling spurs to get fucked and giving him another season. Circa £70mil was a fuckload for him, but no biggie him sticking around.

He just needs integrating back in asap and see if he pulls his finger out, I’ll be mightily pissed if he spits his dummy out about not getting the move and turns in half-arsed performances.

Guehi is better than Dias though, more reliable injury wise than Stones and Ake however

Guehi is better than last season's Dias maybe, and considerably worse than all other versions of Dias.

I do think people underestimate how knackered the team were last year after the level they've been at for years. Pep uncertainty, foden illness, walker drama, rodri injury, txiki going.

Even in this thread its all "not at the level of a title challenging team" - yeah we were terrible last year, not remotely a title challenging team. Not all our players are inherently shite off the back of one season.

The only players who aren't taking loads of stick (with the possible exception of Josko) are Bobb, O'Reilly and Stones as they didn't get the stench of last season on them as they didn't play.

And we still don't have a RB - agreed
Still no back up, replacement for rodri - Gonzo
Still no replacement for KDB - Reinders, Foden & Cherki
Still no wide options with proper output in terms of goals and assists - Bobb & Marmoush
Still no back up replacement for Haaland - Marmoush

I agree with some of that but listing 1 goal, 1 assist in 19 games Bobb over Doku (13 in one season) and Savinho (9 in one season) shows how absolutely distorted appraising our wingers has got because 1 happened to be bought at 16 not 20.

Agree in part - I'm not sold on Guehi and thought Dias was pish last season but it was fairly understandable. However, I think Dias was iffy the season before as well - prone to a few less than ideal performances like against Chelsea in the 4-4. My hope is he gets back to that form from the first 3 seasons

Is Jim White, the shite, going with him ?

Xavi Simons' departure from RB Leipzig to England is apparently becoming more and more concrete, but possibly not to Chelsea FC. According to Bild, the attacking midfielder's camp is in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, the Red Bulls told the newspaper that the 22-year-old has been “released for talks about his future until further notice.” Simons is said to already be in London. Sky, meanwhile, writes that the Blues are still in the running.

Although there has been no official offer from Spurs to RB, the clubs are said to have discussed figures verbally in initial exploratory talks. There is talk of a package, i.e. a fixed transfer fee plus bonuses, of around €70 million – which corresponds to the Dutchman's market value. This would make Simons as expensive as Dominik Szoboszlai (24) when he transferred to Liverpool FC, placing him third among the most expensive sales by the Saxons. He would also be the second major sale this summer after Benjamin Sesko (22), who also moved to the Premier League to Manchester United for €85 million including bonuses.

It’s all down to the quality brought in. Doesn’t matter how much you spend if the quality isn’t improved.

Fifty boxes of supermarket burgers will not improve the quality of a meal the same as one £120 wagyu steak. For some reason we keep buying supermarket players and leaving the top quality to Liverpool and Arsenal.

We’ve spent money, just quite poorly. Just one of Declan Rice, Marc Guehi or Wirtz would have made us a better team than all our January panic buys.
100%

I think we tried for Bellingham,Rice and wirtz, but for various reasons we failed.

I’m more of the opinion, can’t sign the quality you want, don’t sign anyone.

The bad signings we have, not only effect the quality of the team now, but they hamper the rebuild as your tasked with offloading them first.

Which bad signings are hampering a rebuild?

Hopefully with a more solid structure behind him he will flourish. Lots of waiting to be had maybe/ maybe not!

Now that he is sticking around we need to see more from, he scored some cracking goals for Girona, but didn't really kick on with us. Yes he started the season well, but turned to shit, just like everybody else.
First season syndrome under the belt. Hopefully he can develop now.

But we still haven't got a RB so Savinho will have to track back instead of going forward. Same problem, all because our board is currently inept to get the actual right back. Unreal.
