Savinho extends his contract to 2031

Understand the sarcasm, but look at the 360 Doku has made. Who knows? Maybe Savs will become our new Mahrez.

There's enough potential there.
Not a chance, but admire your faith.
Doku did a 361 v Monaco, hopefully his resurrection and the veneration returns with the I told you so's this weekend.
Not consistent enough players for me. Could change - but tends not to with this type. 2 or 3 decent performances, then a couple of anonymous ones. Tend to pull it out of the bag just in time for some observers to feel vindicated.

Looking from the outside in I also am not sure how he’s warranted this extension

However, there’s very very knowledgeable and experienced people in the inner sanctum of our club, that know this kid and see him every day, so know about him one million percent more than any of us on here

That’s enough for me
There’s also people in the club who signed Bony and Phillips. Not every decision made is going to be a good one.

Time will tell on this one. Personally, I’d have cashed in.

Patience for player development has truly eroded over recent years
I think you are bang-on.
We have some patience for those who come from the academy, but not over an extended period. Those who arrive from elsewhere see very little from many on here. I am glad that the club have backed what they see in training and around the club. With consistent game-time, I am convinced he has the chance to become world-class, but he has to earn that game-time first.

10 assist in his first season in a physically demanding league as a young player in a dysfunctional team for quite a few months, flawed at best for the remainder of the season I'd call pretty great yeah. Even sensational to wind up those daft buggers that think his output as a whole can be labelled as "shite". Considering we are 2 months into a new season with Haaland still scoring 70% of our goals and also 3 weeks from people being similiarily divided on a two years older player in Doku I'd cut his goal-tally some slack until we become a better attacking unit and he develops that part of his game

It's definitely not "sensational" is it haha. It's a decent return.

Let's break down these stats you're mentioning -

1 assist in 9 CL matches - not sensational
8 assists in 29 Prem matches - not sensational

It was decent. You don't have to go to the extreme just because you like a player. He's definitely not "shit" but he's got a hell of a lot to work on.

Just like with Doku he is playing a high risk high reward role which brings added heat. His stats for a 21 years old in terms of dribbling, progression and chances created are very strong when you factor in what a disappointing season we had last year

You're basically describing every winger there's ever been, and I don't just mean for us.

FFS got that moniker for a reason, despite his stats looking pretty good. Sterling was heavily criticised. Within the first 5 minutes of a game, you could either give Sane the MOTM award or take him off, depending on how the stars had aligned that morning.

Doku has had a few excellent games recently, Monaco was poor. Then again, who had a good game?

In terms of Savinho, I'm not convinced and would probably have sold him if the interest and numbers from Spuds were realistic. However, he was a young player in a new league and system last season and played way more games than any of us would have expected. We all know how long it can take to adapt to what Pep wants, but with injuries to others he didn't get chance. When everyone is back, he's got a fight on his hands to get game time so let's see if he's got what it takes to step up.

The powers that be must believe he will improve in the final third with assists and goals.

Since Ederson the next three x 6 year contracts were Mendy, Phillips and Grealish.

Still in shock we didn't sell and replace
Who’s to say we didn’t explore doing that?

We may have looked at Rodrygo but, at 24 years old, 5 goals and 6 assists last season isn’t exactly a call sign for us to go balls deep and sign him. He was bang average last season and it’s not like he was a 20 year old last season like Savinho was. And look at this season: just 2 starts, 8 sub appearances late in games and twice left on the bench… and he’s not been injured or owt.
He seems to be getting no better - if not a worse - year on year.

We may have looked at someone like Semenyo, but he signed a new contract at Bournemouth. Maybe that’s because a footballer’s life down in that part of the world is probably the best place to live in the country and he’s happy where he is?

So then we look at Savinho, he’s 21, had good creative numbers last season in his first season in a new league and first season playing in the CL. Spurs offered £43m for Savinho but other than paper talk about them wanting to spend £70m on him, they never actually put another bid in for him. So we were happy to keep him because of his potential and have given him a confidence boost with a new contract to show him we have him in our long term plans.

Why?

He hasn't done enough to earn an extension and no doubt a pay rise.

He needs to improve a lot to warrant it, maybe he will but in all honesty, we should have taken the Spuds money.
I couldn't agree more, I desperately want this kid to be the next wonder kid but I've not seen one thing in any game that suggests he can be that, but ha what do I know, I will be delighted to be corrected in my appraisal.
