Saying goodbye to your best friend

Gutted for you mate, went through similar about 3 months ago, still hurts and even when you think you’re over the worst, something will just remind you of them and boom.
Just remember, she was exactly where she was meant to be and who she was meant to be with, and you gave her a great life in the relatively short time she was here, a life she likely wouldn’t have got elsewhere.

Best wishes mate.

The worst part of being a pet owner is signing that form.

Nothing can really fill the feeling of loss, even if you know it’s the right thing to do.

Sorry for your loss, Mr SA. We don’t always see eye to eye on things, but know exactly what your experiencing right now. Our cat is 15 now, so assume we will be in a similar place within a few years.

This time last Saturday, our oldest miniature dachshund Peppa suddenly lost use of her back legs due to what we think is IVDD, a common issue with the breed. She was still bright and seemingly not in too much pain and with the right pain medication and strict crate rest over a 6-8 week period, it is possible for them to recover in between 30-80% of cases in dogs her age (9) and with the level of paralysis she suffered, grade 3/4 out of 5.

Sadly this week things have got worse to the point she is now almost completely paralysed it seems and is obviously in pain despite the meds.

We are devastated but this morning we will have to say goodbye to her. She has been a magnificent friend to us as a family. She was bought as my support dog at a time when I was suffering through a bad mental health period and she was always there for me. A more gentle girl you would be hard pressed to find and whoever came across her, instantly fell in love with her due to her nature.

Sorry for unloading this on here about my dog.

We love you Peppa and always will x
So sorry mate, they are indeed man's best friend...

Sorry to read this , it is so hard to put a loved pet to sleep ,it does stay with you

As you know i am a cat person and i know you dont believe they can be as close to you as a dog , my last two took a bit of my heart with them , ashes are in cushions on the bed and will go with me , devastated at losing both

Just let the grief in and in time you will remember them with a smile , promise

So sorry for your loss mate.I’m sure she had a wonderful life with you and your family. It’s always the hardest decision to make, but as my vet says better a day early than a day later.

ive had dogs all my life and sadly we only borrow them for a short time.
We had a similar problem with our Golden Retriever who lost the use of his back legs , he had an op to repair the disc but was never able to walk again.

it takes a long time but it does get easier and when the time is right another dog
will help but never replace her.
There‘s lots of rescues looking for forever homes out there especially given the
current economic climate.

I miss my little kitty so much. I had her even though it's against landlord's rules.

It's a different kind of loss from losing a close relative or friend but it's still absolutely devastating.
