Pitch was as bad to play on as Newport’s was.
They were in the ref’s face every two minutes in the first half and diving everywhere.

We took our first goal well.

Their first goal: There’s no way that was intentional handball, his intention was clear - to try and get his arm out of the way so not to handball it, far too many refs don’t know the laws of the game.

Their second goal: They moved the ball for the free kick around 5metres further forward from where the foul was given away and the ref just ran off and let them take it from there, then there’s no way on Earth Fernandinho’s minimal contact made that big bloke fall over the way he did - at most a hand around the hips would make him stand upright and even pull him to a standstill, not a jump to the deck.

Otamendi has a mistake in him in every half of football he plays and today’s rash run-in (where he actually barely touched the lad but just invited the foul) cost him and us a man but let’s be honest; that was not a bookable offence!

de Bruyne and Silva were frankly dreadful!

Sané... truly world class strike!

And what a ball and finish from Ederson and Sterling, who struggled tonight but kept going and got his worthy winner from the hard work he put in.

Good result, average performance but still miles better than them.

The handball is clear for me. The shots going in and Otamendi diverts the ball. The second penalty is a needless pull by Fernandinho.

We're fortunate that Schalke aren't very good.

Of course it's a great result, but it wasn't a great performance.
Pep agrees with you (interview on BT Sport, however I am not sure he actually saw the offences. I think he's just assuming VAR must have called it right).

I didn't think either were pens.

No.1 - Ota) He was pulling his arm out of the way. It's interpretation but VAR should only be used if it's a clear error and it is not clear.

No.2 - Fern) It's a foul, but those fouls are commonplace. Refs normally ignore them.

No. 3 - Ota Red). It's a foul but there was no force. It's not a yellow.

I think we started giving the ball away too often after a good start so I agree it was not a great performance, however the closing goals were nothing short of sensational. Not only the free-kick but the build-up to the free-kick. And then the pass by Ederson. I think commentators might think it was a hopeful punt but that was a wonderful pass.

Ederson is changing the concept of goalkeeping. You can not speak too highly of that pass.

Compare and contrast tonight's VAR with the handball and non penalty in the FA Cup at Newport!
Just the whole game is different, Newport were the first team in years that haven't dived ,cheated and feigned injury constantly . The Sunbed stealers tonight were at it the whole game aided by an incompetent Spanish Pep hater in black. It took all my restraint to not put my size 10s through the TV screen.Hoffenheim was the same.

Where exactly w

Where exactly was our luck?

I ment a bit of luck with Sterlings goal, defender should have got to that ball before Sterling, lets be honest. His bad play was a good luck for us

The pens, or the refs decision doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. They were given two goals - whether right or wrong, nobody watching the match from an unbiased point of view could have said those decisions reflected the overall dominance or superiority we had in the game. We were even reduced to 10 men and still managed to turn it around. Enjoy what you're watching with this team - it's something special!
