Until the Chelsea game, Gundogans best performance in a City shirt was in 2016 against Barcelona. Since then, he has largely been absolute turd. If we have afforded Gundogan this leeway, why should Foden be any different? Too many people are being blinded by Gundogans semi-decent form over the past month and easily forgetting the dross he has served up for the 2 years previous to it.

If Gundogan continues his improvement, I agree Foden will have his time limited but should he revert back to typical Gundogan, I have no issues with him being binned for Foden.

Gundo has been decent. We can hardly blame his for the times he’s been out with a crucial knee jury.

Phil needs to seize the limited chances he gets. He really stated to do that Vs Newport but was anonymous for much of Burton Away and Rotherham at home. He will get better with more game time like several posters have said.

We need to rid the air of complacency that seems to descend on the team when we seem to be in total control, against the top teams in Europe we will not get away with it .

Half a dozen before he gets the yellow as well.

It was a pisstake near the end last night when the Schalke defender bundled over Gundo and then ran back towards his own box to take down Sterling. No yellow was given lol. It was the same Schalke defender who had been in the refs face for most of the game. What a surprise!

But maybe then we would not be complacent? This is a side that got 100 points last season. If we are one thing it is grounded.

Were we complacent at 1-0 yesterday. Yes! However I don't think you can really say we exhibit this as a team. You can find evidence for it if you look for it, but the overall record is not one of throwing wins away. Sure there's the odd instance and yes it can emerge as a new trend and Pep needs to guard against it.

We also let a perceived injustice (first VAR pen) rattle us and throw up out of our rhythm. I think Peo in accepting the VAR decision and Ota’s sending off is trying to get us over that. I know it’s easier said that’s done because many of us (myself included) rush on here to highlight the refs mistakes.

When advantage was taken into account they committed around treble the fouls, a good lot of them cynical fouls to deliberately stop good breaks (that one and another multiple times by the same player on the same break), but received less bookings. Par for the course.

Great character on show but we were poor.

Not as poor as the pitch, but far too slow, far too willing to coast for ten-minute periods (done repeatedly this season)

De Bruyne could end up being our Rodney Marsh this season if he doesn't now get quicker up to speed. The system is again trying to accommodate both him and Bernardo in the same starting line up, which then impacts the decision-making process on Sane and Sterling.

Laporte can't play that left-back hand side at the level required, nor Fern, dropping in to make an additional centre-back.

I felt sorry for the two Silva's last night, who showed the right levels throughout.

Sterling, prior to his match-winning goal, wasn't great.

Please let's get back to playing on the edge, meaning Leroy and Sterling, with Bernardo doing his thing in midfield.

The pace, mental sharpness and composure will be completely different against a "top team".
Happens to all teams.

Some of the football played yesterday was unreal at times . I really love the way the free kick was executed. It was like playing checkers when you jump zig zag from one side to another all the way to the end . If that header had gone in from kun would’ve been the best goal.

I'm far from convinced there is an organised agenda against us. I am convinced there is favouritism towards the likes of Madrid and Barca. That feeds into a sense of unfairness. A level playing field and reasonably consistent treatment and decisions towards all clubs would rid us of much of the conspiracy nonsense.

Agree. Even though I had plenty to say on the first pen/VAR fcuk up, and some of the other refereeing was poor, I don’t subscribe to the conspiracy theory. It’s no different from the victim mentality we mock in others.

Funny that all our cup draws (and those of the rags) used to be fixed...until we went on a long, piss-easy run. The only time we hear about warm balls now is in Off Topic.

The VAR system last night was an absolute farce. nearly 3 minutes to get to a decision was way to long. Then B.T. Sports talking to MIke Walton the ex ref who says it was a pen, yet all 3 former players in the studio Rio, Jolyen, and Owen all say it was not a pen as Nicolas was moving his hand behind his back. This morning in the Sun newspaper Mark Halsey says, thst thr ref made 2 very bad decisions, 1st that the first pen was not a pen as Nicolas was moving his hand behind his back, and 2nd that Nicolas should not have been sent off without reviewing the tackle.

I though that their was to be a pitch side monitor so that the ref can review all dubious decisions, but it was not working. So once again we find ourselves be stuffed by UEFA.

However well done lads for fighting back and coming out to win the game. Let's all hope that when we play the next game UEFA will have sorted out this farce of there being no pitch side monitor that is not working.

Yet the 3 ex-pros on ESPN FC (who are all usually very supportive of City) think it was a penalty:

As did Olly Holt (who again is always very pro-City) whilst Martin Samuel says you see some given and some not.

I think it's fair to say that it's in the eye of the beholder.

Interesting to see Peps views on the decisions.

He says both were penalties.

I have to agree with him in the respect that Fernadinho did commit a foul and the decision was correct. The fact you see similar not given countless times is part of the reason VAR is needed.

The first one is more debatable. Firstly I think it should have been a penalty and the rules should be altered to clarify such in the event of a ball hitting an arm or hand when a shot is on target a penalty should be given. As the current rules stand it was in my view harsh and once again you will often see them not given. The yellow card for such a penalty is harsh in the extreme and of course leaves a player somewhat unjustly a mistake away from a red card as illustrated last night.

There would have been hell up if those penalties were not given in our favour certainly.

The VAR system needs improving and quickly no question because that last night was farcical and to the onlooker simply made the officials look stupid.

Peps remarks on us not being ready for the latter stages surely refer to the fact we are still prone to give poor goals away and the Fernandinho penalty was poor on his part, and the fact that we should have gone there last night and killed the tie off stone dead. As it happens whilst it would take a brave man to bet on Schalke progressing you cannot say the tie is quite done and dusted.

All in all it was not a great performance against a distinctly average side. Infact bordering on a poor performance. Of course what is encouraging is that to win leagues and cups you generally have to be able to summon up a win even when you have a stinker and City did that last night. Had that performance come against one of the main contenders you have to think could we have done the same and would we still be in the tie, perhaps those are along the lines of what Peps thoughts are on the current state of play.
Think Pep was being sarcastic!

Bbbbbbbbbbbbbwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
You can taste their bitterness.
Lovely jubbly.
I had a look on the RAWK CL thread this morning.

Fuck - but they really hate us

What is piss funny is that they scream that nobody should be bothered or care about us - especially them as they are a proper club with history

And they make these comments in pages and pages of bitter posts
