Schalke Post Match Thread

Not bad..

  • Guardiola has qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals in nine of his 10 campaigns, with 2016-17 the only season he failed to do so.
  • City won 10-2 on aggregate - only once previously has a team won by a larger margin in the Champions League knockout stages (Bayern Munich 12-1 Sporting CP in the 2008-09 Last 16).
  • Their progression means there will be at least three English teams in the quarter final stage of a single Champions League campaign for the first time since 2010-11 (Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs).
  • City have scored at least two goals in each of their last seven Champions League games; the longest such streak by an English team in the competition.
  • Guardiola has won all six of his home games in the Champions League against German opposition as manager - his sides have scored 28 goals, while conceding just two in return.
  • Aguero has scored in four consecutive Champions League appearances for Manchester City; the joint-longest run of any player for the club (along with Sterling in November 2017).
  • Sane scored his 50th goal in all competitions at senior club level (37 for his current club and 13 for Schalke).
  • Sterling has been directly involved in nine goals in his last four starts for Manchester City at the Etihad in all competitions (six goals and three assists).
  • Foden is the youngest player to score for Manchester City in the Champions League (18 years and 288 days.

SUPERB.

And i honestly didnt know Sane had scored 37 goals for us.Wow.just Wow.what a player we have.

Great performance tonight, well done Blues. The papers are covering Gundogan and his contract situation. At the risk of putting a downer on a great night, can I say that I would like to see us sign Zinchenko as a matter of priority. Gundogan has done ok in my eyes but slows us down too many times when we're racing through midfield. Mini Kev is getting better and better all of the time and can tie down the left back spot in a world rated team if he carries on like he is doing. He'll save us £50m in transfer fees for a Mendy replacement as well if that's what Pep is considering

Zinchenko is a very good football player...and looks great in a team dominating the opposition. However, he is not a top defender and lacks pace to be the left back we need for the future. Solid squad player and has been a great asset to the team this season.

7-0 Time to bring in Maurinho, would have preferred to have won 1-0 with a dour boring defensive display as that is the future of football not pass pass score seven times

Zabba didn’t have much pace and wasn’t great at defending for his first few years at City. Look how he turned out.

top stuff.

bigger tests to come, but you can only beat what is served up in front of you.

Scintillating !! What the hell has happened to Zinch? He's morphed into super Kev. Sane was unplayable and Sterling again unbelievable. Yes, Schalke might of been poor, but we made them look shite. CTID

Oh and how did 30 or so Schalke fans get seats all together in CB3 by the tv stand ? There were quite a few dotted around, which I have no problem with, but 30 together ? who sold the tickets ?

Every European game there's far too many away fans in blocks 326 and 327, got nasty against Celtic and began to boil over against Lyon, last night wasn't too bad as the scoreline diffused the situation, however, if we get the rags or Liverpool in the next round they'll be carnage in there if it happens again.

Feel sorry for the stewards up there, mainly women and older guys, they don't a chance if it kicks off.

Wow, we scored 7 in a Champions League knockout game and still haven't hit top gear yet.
Thought we started a bit slowly but never looked liked letting them score.
Once the 1st goal went in it was so easy and considering that we only played with 1 recognised centre back made it even more impressive.
Was great to see Phil score..this lad is already good enough to be playing regularly for most other teams in the Prem.
Pep is doing it right by integrating him into the team gradually.
Zinch is getting better every game , Leroy looked very good too.
Very enjoyable game and a good crowd too..even the tram to Ashton was a double ..happy days.
