I'm sure I remember zidane saying he was the best cm he played against, his most difficult opponent.
Scholes was an excellent player, dictated the pace of the game, controlled the game, like Silva has for the last 7 seasons.
I rate Silva a lot more highly tho

No contest, Bell scored more 8 more goals with around a 100 less appearances, better passer, much better engine, better defensively, he was just better, I’ve seen both play many times and the King is head and shoulders above any, English, inside forward in history..Are you not old enough to have seen Colin Bell? Scholes is the finest midfielder England has produced in decades
In a 4-5-1/4-3-3 maybe he was better suited to that suited system than Gerrard or Lampard but playing 4-4-2, Gerrard and Lampard were the far superior players hence Scholes’s omissions from England and hence why Ferguson preferred players like Anderson and Fletcher in the big games ahead of Scholes when he was playing 4-4-2. Underrated in his career and maybe misused in his career but he’s overrated now.
