Watching this, you can't deny what great respect the world of football has for him

Didn't he always want to end up playing for Oldham? I thought he said that a couple of times in his career that he'd end his days there.

I don't care who he's married to.

I don't care that he's meant to be amazingly perfect as a human being. Ryan Giggs was viewed in the same way until about a month ago.

I've never had a favourite rag.
It's not about having a favourite rag, infact for a player of that quality, and Giggs for that matter, you can pretty much take out the team he plays for from any arguement. It makes you no less of a blue to acknowledge the achievements of those 2 players, infact it makes you more so because it means you have the ability to not be clouded by anything. I have massive respect for both Giggs and Scholes, partly for the same reason, (what they have acheived), but for Giggs it stretches to complete admiration and respect that he has played for one of the biggest clubs in the world more or less non-stop for 20 whole years. Add to that what he has achieved during that time. With Scholes its respect for what he has won and the consistency he has won it with, plus the fact he is a non-entity off the pitch. All that money, and none of it went to his head. In the era of the multi-million pound footballer, it's easy to let it go to your head, there are examples of it at every club, ours included. Scholes seems to have just not been interested one bit. I remember about 5 or 6 years ago pulling up at some traffic lights on Oldham Road. I glanced at the rather nice car, (but nothing to extravagant), next to me and realised it was Scholes. The car was an Audi A8, a sponsored one from the club. I'm sure he might have something more fun in his garage, but it just seemed pretty level headed of him to be driving an almost-regular car, again in an era where its all money money money. I don't see how anyone can not have respect for him to be honest, unless of course the club he played for clouded that judgement.

Impossible to replace. He was our best player this season for our first 5 games; and there was no one better to bring on with 20 minutes left if you want to control a game.

Played his last game at the age of 36 in the biggest football game on the planet against the best team on the planet - pretty fitting. Wasn't exactly a shock to see him retire, but it still saddened me. When you've been watching a player for nearly 20 years, you just expect them to go on forever. Alas, his time came.

One of United's all time greats; his infuence will only properly be felt after he's retired, as is the case with the majority of great footballers.

Only rag player I genuinely would have wanted playing for us. Out of all their players he was the one who I was always fearful of when playing the shite. It is going to be an absolute joy watching us get one over on that pile of shite from Trafford twice a year from now on. Happy days.

Fantastic footballer, arguably the best midfielder the Premier League has seen, certainly the best passer of a ball. Irreplaceable.
