School kids protest climate change

That's already being done, wherever possible, wind and wave can't possibly meet demand, fracking can, and I'm
all for it, no eyesore useless windmills for a start. What do we invest in, other than this, which a lot don't want either?
Walking the streets with placards, be they kids or adult, gives us all something to talk about, but they
need to understand what end product their protests would result in, if implemented.

Pls see my above post.

I hate when people blame a generation. My parents had no conscious intention in creating this mess and neither do I and neither do my kids.

There’s a mess. But it exists like we all exist because it does. Blame is irrelevant.

We need to adapt on one hand and try to resolve on the other. It’s hard to see a real improvement happening but I hope it will come - especially through technology and a few truely ingenious people.

It’ll be a roomful if people that’ll save us imo. Not a mass movement. But it only makes sense to back both horses.

Climate change was first flagged up in the late 60s, sciestist and envorpmemtalists then pushed for research funding throughout the early to mid 70s, finally some governments listened and acted, since the 80s it has been mew and warnings have been made and dismissed mainly by those with vested interests.

40 years+ we have been aware of what was coming, 2 generations, so yes it is kind our fault as a generation, but not individually in the big stakes of deciding policy and pandering to lobbyist from companies that have an enviromental impact.

Every street in Manchester was given a food waste bin, yet I see maybe a couple per street on collection day out, and I know people at work who don't recycle at all because it's a hassle.

We are all culpable in this in some way, blaming gentration isn't personal, but it is true our governments were too inactive or indifferent in dealing with this quick enough.

How does the government find the power to allow this tech to continue?

Renewable energy plans have been drawn up several times to help power the country more, but cost and unwillingness to enact upon them has put most countries behind in advancing this.
As per normal, profit is more important than anything else.

I honestly cannot fathom how you can look at that today and think negatively.

Climate change is going to kill everyone on the planet - their futures are being fucking stolen by ignorance and they cannot do anything but protest.

Equality and homelessness etc. are big issues but this is apocalyptic and these smart kids know it.

Why would they “celebrate the environment” it’s being fucked for them?

This sent a message and it’s sadly one being ignored.
There’ll be a theme that unites the nay-sayers to this, apparent in certain other threads!

They need to do it more.

I believe the technology is either there or could be created to the above possible.

We should all be driving electric cars much sooner than the planned last day of petrol for example.

The Green Party’s argument is that the budget for renewable energy should be far far greater than it is and I agree with them.

Brexit could be the biggest boost for the uk environment tbh. Not only will we not have a pot to piss in and we will be eating our own children to stay alive (thus reducing our smartphone footprint) but we will have to make a lot more stuff in Blighty as international trade is going to stop dead overnight, not to forget the grounding of all aircraft, the closing of the ports and the siezure of the lorries. Sure, Cars won't be needed as there won't be anything on the shop shelves to buy.
Might as well start shutting down the powerstations wheilst we are at.....

Whilst i presume you're being slightly tongue in cheek, you've actually nailed it if things go tits up after brexit regarding consumption etc

I watched that YouTube in the National Debt thread about banking. Maybe that’ll collapse before the environment does and maybe that’s scarier.

OK now back to the important things like getting out the door with the kids for their sports.

Could you Link the YT plz?

While I applaud the kids for thinking, I suggest they may be better off spending the day in school learning.
They may have been better spending the day looking at:
Average cost per KW of energy in the UK 1960-2018
Average power consumption per capita UK 1960-2018
Population growth UK 1960-2018
Total power use UK 1960-2018

And discussing how to reduce carbon whilst sustaining power demand or how to reduce power demand.

Perhaps they would have a clearer understanding of the issue rather than blaming "government" and "old people" for fucking up their future.

I saw it was said a lot of schools had CDP days so not to interfere with their normal lessons.

Also such a protest and marches is a valuable lesson in history, sociology and life.

Funny, I've never been on a protest march in my life. Hasn't done me any harm.

You have missed out, are great days and you get to call the anarchists and socialist workers party çunts that they are.

Last one I went for a piss midway and ended up with the PKK and free Kurdistan movement for 30 mins were great people.
After wards was on the piss with many a different person from firemen, nurses, factory workers post men and office staff.

Love the outrage at this from the press, shocked that young people swear.

Fuck me should be on a bus a scholl kicking out time probaably hear more swear words than the grey horse on a saturday night

These are the same kids who care about the planet but won’t walk to school and mummy and daddy have to take them and pick them up in their 4 x 4.

Can you prove that for every child.or are you just generalising with a very weak comment because those moaning about this have no real arguement to give why it was a bad thing that the youth are engaged with their future.

Funny how so many resort to the ad-hominen remarks when it's easy to arguemt why that is irrelevant given the urgency of the actual matter.

The question is, how thuraly do people want to be proven wrong if i would bring out the truthbomb? mind you, it will be thousands of words to explain it all, but i think you will be surprised when i ramm down trough topics like:

  • Conspicious consumption and it's waste (giant cars and yearly fashion)
  • planned obsolence and lack of value in durabillety ( get youre iphone slow down app after warranty period)
  • The relative lack of modabillety in product design and the extend of incompatabillety, (Sorry thats not a USB A, it's a displayport, the one from last year in fact)
  • The relative lack of modularity in product design and lack of interchangeabillety (yes printer cartridge 596 is a bitch to order and will cost ya cheap inkjet using ass)
  • The relative lack of recycabillety in product design or abbilety to redesignate in function (I'm working on a design to have PET bottles in a building brick shape)
  • Multiusabillety versus overfeaturing (need to find a fine line in between)
  • price fixing and destruction of resources to maintain prices (farmers destroying their produce meme)
  • Market controls and artificial scarcity (huge difference between limiting the amount of living space on the market versus excess, even if you need to let houses go slummy)
  • Marketing as a resource demanding tool to make people desire more than they otherwise might have (Buy youre giant climate change hat now!)
  • Patents and the usage of outdated production methods or actual lack of spread of information (no we won't share the cure for that painfull disease, let those who suffer pay up)
  • Economicly inhumane products such as cigarette's and weapons that produce a net waste (spending resources to the detriment of humanity)
  • The "personification" of the company as an "legal individual" and the lack of responsabillety for individual culpabillety of the bussiness elite (best thing about being a greedy asshole is going scot free)
  • The Narrative of meritocracy versus the ineffiency's created by squandered inheritances (but People should deffinatly bow for miss Paris and her pet dog too)
  • the exploitation of the fractional banking system and the consequent market instabillety's and consequences (obviously if capitalism fails, we need ... more capitalism)

I'm just started with my list though. I think i can make swiss cheese out of the postering of the current system easily enough and provide plenty of guideline to simply change the whole motherfucking thing to well something that arguably better serves certain functions that seem actually genuily desired by the vast majority of people. Above there is plenty to talk about te waste of the capitalist system whichis huge but actually also avoidable. Don't hold back to ask some details, i don't think it would convey the message so well if i made this more of a "wall of text" anyway. But to be honest, personally i'm more interrested in creative and constructive sollutions instead of incesant cancerous indignation on the youth, stupid behaviour that is so old it can be proven to be ancient BS.

You should go back to school and learn to write and spell.

I could but won't as I can write and spell, my teaching english as a language qualification atests to that, I cannot speed type on qwerty and I never proof read, do I care?? Nope.

Shite comeback btw, the internet is brimming with bad spelling from people perfectly able to spell and write
