Schweinsteiger is open to a move

damn it, after Corkey thread lastnight really thought this would happen, not sure now.

Tune into reality fm hes not leaving Bayern.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Much like Podolski before he left, Schweinsteiger has had an uneasy relationship with the Bayern supporters and the Bayern heirarchy. His quotes from the other day in which he said he wasn't "married to Bayern" was as much of a come and get me plea as I've read this summer.

I'm not convinced he'd come to us to be fair - I can see everyone from Chelsea to Real Madrid being interested in him...but we'll see. I'd have said the same thing about Toure and Silva two months ago.

yeah, but toure and silva had obvious reasons to leave... they'd been linked with us for over a season. for this one to come out of the blue would be extraordinary.

I kind of disagree about the blatant come and get me plea. It seemed a bit more subtle than that. The original article was cannibalised by a few of outlets in the uk, some reported his comments as 'I'm staying', some as 'I want to leave'.

as well as 'I'm not married to the club' he did say, "There are always a few offers, but I have a contract with Bayern until 2012 and I respect the contract and the club."

You're right about his uneasy relationship with Bayern... not quite sure it's the same thing as the other two, who had to leave for playing time (in Yaya's case), and to play at a decent level (Silva). He is first pick, and he knows full well how good a club Bayern are.

"I know that there is something great at Bayern. We didn't reach the UEFA Champions League final without good reason and to win it is my ambition."

"The Bundesliga is great and has become more important, but if I were to move on then, of course, the idea of going abroad is what excites me."

so nothing ruled out, but he certainly doesn't sound like someone who's already packed his bags. if the right offer came for Bayern, and for him, it could happen.

I reckon he's only interested in a move if it increases his chances of a Champs League medal, which right now means Inter, or Real.. Even then, I'm not completely convinced he'd take the move, to me the most likely thing is that he's looking for offers with an open mind, but he'd also use them to see what he could get out of Bayern before taking the plunge.

I see what you're saying CC.

Playing devil's advocate for a minute - if Bayern don't cash in this summer, they'd have to have an inkling that he'll sign a new contract, otherwise next summer they won't be able to command anything like the kind of money for him they'll get this summer.

One interesting thing is that nobody has hazarded a guess as to what kind of valuation Bayern would stick on him right now. With the World Cup he's had, with his form over the last two seasons, I'd say he'll cost more than what Villa want for Milner...
