This lad would be just what our midfield needs, it's blatantly obvious that Mancio wants to play with 2 up front most of the time, I really think a midfield duo of Parker and Barry would work well and compliment each other. Parker has the legs and the drive to take the ball forward and Barry can sit and pick out the passes.

In games where we need to keep it tight De Jong can be brought into the fray and just play with Carlos up front on his own a la Chelsea away.

Would much rather see a hungry scotty parker sign rather than an almost over the hill Stevie Gerrard who would be "taking a step down" to join us.

gold and sullivan said everyones up for sale but him so there can't be much chance of that happening.

I can see why mate, he absolutely ran the show against us yesterday. Quality play, his injury record is questionable though that's the only thing that would ever make me think twice about him...

well, since him and gerrard are the same age, and as you put it, gerrard is almost over the hill, wouldn't that make parker almost over the hill aswell then?

It's worth noting that Scott Parker , Gareth Barry and Stephen Gerrard are all the same age , 29 ....... at the moment!

Some might say that they're all (almost) over the hill!

Midfielders ...... Roy Keane was about 21/22 when he signed for the rags ........ and Viera was around 20 years of age when he first signed for Arsenal ......... Lampard was about 22 when he joined Chelsea.

haha ok, my mistake. Scott Parker has been around forever! Injuries have held him back which is a bit of a put off when you really think about it. I still stick by the "taking a step down" to join us bit though.

I would also like us to give michael johnson one last season to prove himself..

Absolutely no point in sinking transfer funds into geriatrics, no matter what kind of show they can put on. The lungs and the legs have seen much better days. Jeez, we'll be in for the Ginger Pig next.

Johnson might still have a pretty good future here ...... if he can get himself fit enough , and that means losing weight too ...... he's already getting that Paul Gasgoine shape into his appearance!
