Why do fans blame one player for England's downfall? Fat frank and Gerard havelet england down for years and Barry done poorly last world cup too. Parker will probably do cack too but what are the other options?

I would argue that maybe one team in this Euros is shit: Greece.

England are FAR from shit. This is with Barry and Wilshire out (starting England players imo), no Rooney for the first few, and without the best English right back in Micah Richards. The best English centre half in the last two years is finally playing for his country, it's just a shame Dawson has had an injury hit two years because i rate him higher than the rest behind Lescott too. There's a good chunk of players that would make England better and we already have a decent side out. Grant Holt, as unfashionable as he might well be, would make our squad better too.

All this said....but "Scotty" Parker is not England starting quality. There is a reason that Gareth Barry kept Nigel de Jong, James Milner (his best position is defensive mid, and not on the fucking wing as every single England manager seems to think!) and Pizarro out of the City team; and that is because he is a propely good player. I'm not talking about average and making the best of what he's got, i mean properly good!

Also when have Gerrard and Lampard let England down? They've been great players over the years. We were Portugal's equals (in fact we were the better team in that World Cup game in 2006) but we went out in the lottery of penalties against them in 2004 and 2006. In them two years hardly anybody in the world was better than us. Greece and Italy somehow managed to win them tournaments but i still feel had we won the lottery shoot-out in either game against Portugal, we would have had as good a chance as anybody to win either tournament.

Barry was rushed back for the World Cup totally unfit after a major injury. Should never have played. Much more ability than Parker...

I don't get the England are shit thing either. In the last 30 years we've qualified for 12 of the last 15 tournaments and our average finish in the World Cup since then is approx 6/7th best. We've been very poor at penalties - an area where you need to be able to deal with pressure and have good technique. A lot of England players don't have great technique and that lets us down.

We're still probably one of the top six sides at this tournament but to win would need more luck that Germany or Spain.


What strikes me about Parker is the comment Gerrard made about being 'braver' on the ball. In this country brave means the way Parker plays, throwing yourself into tackles, tiring yourself out, making blocks. Real bravery in football is the way Barry plays (and the way Aguero, Tevez, Nasri, Silva, etc play) and that's receiving the ball in tricky situations and not kicking it away as fast as you can. Barry is one of the few England players who can turn with the ball and shield it comfortably with players around him - that's a big reason why we look a better team with him in that we did against France.
