Why?

I saw a few today, which I had not noticed before...

We have no Scottish players in the first team, and thus have little or no reason to have any association with Scotland, so why are these bigots trying to associate themselves with our religion-free club?

They tried their best to tag along when we played Celtic in a pre season friendly at Celtic Park.

Why do these people try and associate themselves with us?

The sectarian nonsense that they bring is a crippling disease which we need to steer clear of. And pardon my ignorance, but I thought the Scottish hated the English, well that's certainly the general consensus isn't it?

We are a religion-free club, and always have been. Please take your disease elsewhere.

EDIT:

Just one look at all these responses and it's not hard to tell that I've been misinterpreted.

First of all, the "crippling disease" comment was referring to the religious and parochial nonsense that was displayed when we played at Celtic Park, not Scottish men or women, how anyone could think that is what I meant is beyond me...

I accept that making the link between a few Scottish flags and religious bigots was wrong, and well slightly naive. And for this I am sorry. I also know that we have Scottish fans, and for some bizarre reason the majority of people who have replied on this thread seem to think I hate the Scottish and don't want them anywhere near our football club.

You couldn't be more wrong, or ignorant. A large proportion of my family lives in Scotland, I have friends who are Scottish, friends that I have taken to COMS in the days of Kevin Keegan. I have no problem with us having Scottish fans, why would I? If I did I would have to go and find another club to support! The connection I was making was to the affect waterfootblues has done below...

I was at the Celtic match and when I got in the atmoshere between the two sets of fans was friendly and there was good banter between the fans. Now I am a Manc who lives in Glasgow and my wife is a Glaswegian.

Three guys turned up and unfurled the Glasgow Man City Saltire. I thought this was amazing and joined in with them holding the flag. It soon became apparrent though that these guys had an agenda and it was more to do with hatred towards the Celtic, Catholics and the Irish and some of the sectarian abuse they were singing and trying to get others to join in with was a disgrace.

I loved the Glasgow Man City flag but not the biggots who own that flag. They are a cancer in Scottish football and their extreme views are not welcome at our fantastic football club.

My only team is Man City and I dont bother with Celtic or Rangers and I have no agenda.

The more flags at COMS the better, just leave all the sectarian behaviour behind.

I have made contact with a few blues while I have been up here and some of them are trying to get a Man City supporters club up and running (no supporters club in Glasgow) to cover the West Coast.

That is the point I was attemting to make, although clearly I failed, and my point became more about the Scottish than religious sectarianism, which wasn't intended.

My original post was referring to the sectarianism that a small minority of Scottish fans bring, as they usually support either Rangers or Celtic aswell as an English side, and some of them want the whole world to know this, which I don't agree with as it creates divisions among fans.

My original post was aimed at the people who have an agenda, not Scottish fans in general, an example I made was the bigots who tagged along when we played Celtic.

Why was this conveniently avoided by everyone who attacked me?

It was a valid point and it did infact happen. An event I used as an example which was conveniently dismissed by all but one poster.

Why did everyone seek to personally attack me when they know absolutely nothing about me, my beliefs, my faith, or my character?

I am sorry that I have offended some posters, that was not my intention, I hope this post has cleared a few things up.

If you remain offended despite everything I have just said, then you are probably one of the people who dragged the name of Manchester City through the mud at Celtic Park, and thus I have no sympathy for you, and still wish you would take your crippling disease elsewhere.

so there are no man city supporter clubs in scotland??

i'm from northern ireland and I would spend over the odds to go to a city match and I would proudly bring a northern ireland flag with me - would that offend you??

it's simply a symbol to the team that they have support in their neighbouring countries.... surely not a bad thing?

Ironic you talk about bigotry, but are opposed to someone displaying their nations flag, and seem to associate all Scots with sectarianism.

flying the flag for the national front are we?

it had GLASGOW MAN CITY written on it, why is there a problem with that?

Exactly.

We've had a large number of Scottish players in the past - possibly their support of our team started then. Of course I could be being naive!
