I’m not commenting on the rights and wrongs of city here but the examples above will be loans that are effectively from banks/finance houses or the government/council. All those organisations will have been instructed by the government to provide that holiday in the same way mortgage holidays are being backed by the government.
City are a business so it is slightly different.
I'm not sure an organisation CAN suspend a DD then restart it without a new direct debit instruction from the customer so there's paperwork one way or the other. Plus how would City know who can and can't afford the DD scheme to restart? It's a difficult thing to judge and I have sympathy with the club a bit as, until the league is scrapped, they've got other business commitments and insurances to think of. Not everyone is strapped for cash, do we know how many fans as a percentage can't afford to pay the last instalment then wait for the refund/credit/charity donation options to follow? It's probably not known at this time.Nobody is saying cancel the direct debits just suspend this payment. It would be just as easy to refund or reduce pro rata next season if that's the route we go down if you have made 9 or 10 payments, people being forced to cancel dds is creating a whole load of work for everyone deactivating cards extra that needed have happened.
