Seasonally Affective Disorder (SAD)

27 degrees here. Been one of the warmest winters I can remember in the 25 + years living on and off in various parts of Spain.
The winters I was back in the UK were grim as fuck and I'm in no rush to ever experience them again.
I quite like the cold weather and love the footy over the Winter months. And I prefer Winter fashion to Summer fashion.

But all my indoor plants die in the Winter and I do feel healthier when I’ve had a bit of Sunshine on my back through the Summer months.

So I don’t mind Winter or Summer.

The days I don’t like are those ones in Spring and Autumn, when it’s too cold not to wear a coat but too warm to wear a coat and you could wear a jumper/jacket but if it rains and you get wet you’ll be too cold in just that…

I like to know that it’s going to be either nice and cold or nice and hot, easier that way.

Even though I’ve never been diagnosed with SAD, I think I suffer from it.

My mindset and temperament change massively during Winter. Especially at the start of the New Year. I can cope with Autumn now as it’s pretty mild and dry as a rule.

I always look forward the shortest day of the year which is normally the 22nd of December, as I know after that date it starts getting lighter again. But it does take over 4 weeks after that date before you really start noticing the lighter hours. Only another 3 weeks to go! :-(

On the flip side, I love and hate the longest day of the year, which is normally on the 22nd of June, as it’s light until about 11pm on a clear and dry night, but you know the days start getting shorter the next day. The other plus point is Summer officially starts the next day and the weather gets better for at least 3 months, especially if we have a long hot Summer like this year.

Ideally I’d like to live in a Mediterranean country. Hot Summers, mild winters, and a lot less grey, cloudy skies and rain. Maybe one day?

Know how you feel. Kids have forgotten half the presents they got last week already, scoff at me when I mention writing thank you cards or going out and spending some family time together..too cold, too wet.... and I'm back at work in a few days, today was my last day off. Thank City for the footy though.

Still, it's getting warmer and brighter each day. Not long before we're in the grip of another heatwave and all the delights that will bring.
To be honest that family time thing is overrated in my opinion. I much prefer going the pub with the lads!

I like this country April-October but as soon as the clocks change I’m like a hermit. I’d quite like a couple of months somewhere warm and where it is lighter longer in the winter.

Sun sets in Tenerife at 6.30pm and in Cape Town 8pm at the moment compared with 4pm here.

One day maybe!

I'm about to fly back to Malaysia tomorrow after a couple of weeks in the UK. It was depressing, but it was about more than the weather. My 'fast track' passport arriving a week late added a massive amount of stress. Caught covid within a few days of being back. Bought three train tickets and didn't manage to get on a single train, despite none of them being on a strike day. The high street in my parents' town is full of smashed windows and boarded up streets. Hell, I even had to wait 2 hours for my bags at the airport ffs. I left England in 2010 and came back fairly regularly before covid. This is the first time I've been back since 2018 and it's the worst I've ever seen it.

Try St. John's Wort from a health food shop or buy it online. I have used it for years. I take it from November until the end of March. It's a natural remedy based on the St. John's Wort plant. It takes a couple of weeks to start taking effect but in my opinion it definitely helps me to deal with SAD.

Uses this (the Kira brand) when my head was battered about 15 years back.

Boxed me right off.
