DD mandates should expire after 13 months of no activity so it could be likely that everyone will be asked to submit a new form. Might as well capture this info from those actively renewing instead of auto-renewing.If people are having to re-enter bank details that suggests the DD mandate has expired so how can automatic renewal work if that's the case?
Yes, I was thinking the same about the expiry but their own blurb says those on DD from 19/20 will renew automatically so both cannot be correct.DD mandates should expire after 13 months of no activity so it could be likely that everyone will be asked to submit a new form. 13 months of inactivity is the recommended time to deactivate a DD mandate but deactivation is dependent on the company holding the mandate doing that. If City haven't deactivated the DD mandate then it should still be valid.DD mandates should expire after 13 months of no activity so it could be likely that everyone will be asked to submit a new form. To put another slant onto this...Give us a chance to get some clarity before you do anything. As I said, this could be just a very clumsy way of saying that there may be circumstances where they'd have to move you next season even if you had renewed, as they've done for the people moved for the new advertising boards or the new hospitality facility in the SW corner. That could well be what thy meant but they really could have made that clear, if so.
It's the bank that could deactivate it after 13 months, but it's moot anyway because after doing a quick search it looks like that expiry period has been extended to 24 months due to the pandemic ...13 months of inactivity is the recommended time to deactivate a DD mandate but deactivation is dependent on the company holding the mandate doing that. What happens when a Direct Debit is inactive?
This is covered by the dormancy period rule. All banks or building societies hold details of Direct Debit Instructions on file for a minimum period of 13 months* from it's lodgement date, in the event of no collections, or from the date of the last payment. After the dormancy period has passed, the bank or building society will remove details of the Instruction from their system. Before claiming further Direct Debit payments the organisation must obtain a new Direct Debit Instruction or your authority to continue collecting. If this is not done your Direct Debit payment may be returned by your bank or building society.
*This has been temporarily increased to 24 months to minimise the impact of payment holidays during the Covid-19 pandemic.
