From what I can gather if you don't do anything they will automatically renew but if you actively go to renew it will ask you for bank details. I did it a few seasons ago. I think it's so it makes it easier to give new bank details if you move banks.DD mandates should expire after 13 months of no activity so it could be likely that everyone will be asked to submit a new form. Might as well capture this info from those actively renewing instead of auto-renewing.

I think City must have deactivated the mandate as I had to reenter my bank details. Only takes a minute.13 months of inactivity is the recommended time to deactivate a DD mandate but deactivation is dependent on the company holding the mandate doing that. If City haven't deactivated the DD mandate then it should still be valid.
