For those on direct debit, I seem to remember that i signed an automatic renewal when I set mine up, so perhaps we wont get a renewal email

You should still get an email, although there will be an email renewal pack that will be sent to every seasoncard holder.

I'm on the direct debit received my renewal email last week some time says that a website link opens on the 25th to do renewals so I'm assuming we still have to tick all the boxes?

If yours was value gold that was a special one off price for that seat, not the usual price. You should be able to get a full 299 S/ticket in SS 3 after the renewal period.
