Seat Counters - 2024/25

I make you largely right. The ticket agencies buy seats but I don't think they return them. There were clearly loads of non attending season ticket holders because of the way the seats were scattered around rather than being in clumps at the back. Usually these seats sell via the seat exchange but in this case there were far more returns than sales.
It seems clear that the empty seats were a mixture of returns from corporate/agencies and season ticket holders. It would be better if the club were just transparent about where the allocations go. Ironically, despite the empty seats, the atmosphere was better than many other matches this season and more fans stayed to the end!

As some have suggested on this thread - it’s not rocket science to try and engage supporters - run free coaches and a subsidy of semi final tickets might have cost City £750k ! Imagine the positive PR it would have gained and who knows it might have seen our allocation taken up.

But not for our board, the only interaction with supporters in the last 2 weeks was to threaten seasoncard holders that they will confiscate tickets if they ain’t used next season - on the same week there are thousands unsold for a home game and a semi final. Who the fuck do they think will be buying the confiscated tickets on top op the extra 9000 seats available in 2026 ?

City used to have a fanatical following, getting to the cup final meant something, something has been lost along the way

That's because we rarely got to one or even anywhere near Wembley. Off the top of my head I was at both games against Spurs in 1981. The next Wembley game I remember was the full members one against Chelsea in 1986. After that I'm sure the next meaningful Wembley game was the Gillingham play off final in 1999. So discounting a glorified friendly against Chelsea there was a gap.of 18 years. Starved of such games we sold 46,000 tickets and could easily have sold double that amount if allowed. Our next Wembley game was the rag semi final in 2011 which sold out, as did the final.

Since then Wembley visits have been frequent and as such are no longer a rare chance to go there. Any apathy or diluting of fanaticism has many reasons that countless people have explained and are continuing to explain in this thread.

For the sensitive souls upset by the mocking of online trolls, many of whom never step foot in a football ground themselves, you better grow a thicker skin. They will never go away and even if we sold out Wembley on our own steam they would find some other crap to mock.

Nothing has been lost, but expectation levels obviously change with the incredible success we've had on the pitch.

We went 22 years between Gillingham and United in 2011. A 22 year wait to get to Wembley, ended by a huge game against your biggest rivals in an opportunity to end a 35 year trophy drout is completely uncomparable to a 7th FA cup semi final on the bounce against Nottingham Forest.

If Newcastle eventually end up similar to us, their fanbase will be exactly the same.

Fundamentally, football fans at all clubs are pretty similar. If we go a few years without a trip to wembley, the next appearance will be much harder to acquire tickets for.
12 year not 22 , but I get your point about going every year

Is it unlimited funds, I bet there are 20000 season ticket holders not done one away game this season

So....we get on average 3,000 tickets for away games which are normally snapped up straight away. I think one of the seat counters on here said we've sold around 30,000 tickets for this game so far. So that makes 23,000 who've not done one away game this season who've bought a ticket, which makes your post total nonsense. Also if you're skint you are skint. It doesn't matter how many tickets are available if you can't afford to go you don't go. Tickets could be a tenner but the cheapest coach to Wembley is around £50 to add to the cost which for some is too much.

The Women's Euros was on at Wembley the following day, under UEFAs rules it couldn't be used the day before, which is why it was moved.

There were limited options because the season started earlier due to the Qatar World Cup and some grounds/pitches weren't ready after summer work etc.

I think the only choices were Arsenal, West Ham or Leicester, which seems like utter bollocks to me. Villa Park, Elland Rd, Hillsborough or Bramhall Lane would surely have been better!
Leicester Charity Shield was a great day out.

It was a tenner less for kids.

Club could have easily done something more though.

Have Forest sold out?

I think anywhere around 30k is good going all things considered. Would have been better to sell them all, but this is the semi final. The other three teams in the cup it will feel like a final for so it's unsurprising they've shifted more.

They can see how they get on in 7 years time if they make so many in a row.
Yeah Forest sold out but first non play off trip to Wembley since their fa cup final with spurs in (I think) 1991.

Edit I am in safe standing and there were no concessions there either for me as oap or them as teenagers

This fixture comes sandwiched between Villa at home (£71 minimum) and Wolves at home (£61 minimum). No wonder a lot of people can't afford it.
When they knew ticket sales were low, City could have put some sort of ‘Bundle’ deals in place. For the two home games in ten days or all three games in ten days.

We could have done something like:

PL Bundle - Villa & Wolves games, adults£75 and kids£37.50

Triple Bundle - Villa, Wembley & Wolves games, adults£120 and kids£60

Wembley Bundle - Wembley tickets and coach travel, adults£50 and kids£25

Enticing people with bundles and cheaper tickets and filling the ground is miles better than pricing everyone out and having 7,000 empty seats.

City have more than enough turnover to subsidise coach travel to Wembley just for semi finals each year. And that would have made the difference between being able to afford to go and not, for many people.

We used to have bundles in place for CL Group Stage games. Nothing like this exists anymore at this club.

Get fans onside, create some good will with supporters who are growing increasingly fucked off with the club, get a Dad+lad hooked on coming to games.

Our following for Wembley is what it is. If we sell 28k off the Official Site, there will be close to 30k Blues in the ground as many have connections with armed forces and public services charities, companies with seats in Club Wembley etc.

There were more Blues at the game vs Villa than I was expecting (given the negativity in the lead up). We’ve had a similar number of empties for games in the week before Wembley in the past and there were some issues with season card holders missing the rearranged game, unsold tickets, tickets with agencies and high match day prices / costs.

If people go to the game great. If many can’t make it then so be it. Every one has their reasons.

One recurring problem is match day ticket prices. Cheaper prices would have increased the crowd though probably not delivered a sell out, due the short notice rearranged fixture. There is nothing to be gained from Blues having a pop at each other about attendance etc.

Different arguments for different games

Firstly (and coincidentally this always seems to happen when a game gets rearranged relatively late) we have hundreds of seasoncard holders who don't attend a particular PL fixture.

Tottenham had the same issue the other night but nobody said a word.

There could be all kinds of reasons, but I suspect that the main issue is nothing to do with price. It's just people who don't have the time or inclination if their normal routine is disrupted.
Equally likely we have lots of young families who pick and choose their midweek games

Yes, we could sell cheaper tickets but that wouldn't necessarily guarantee a capacity attendance unless the non attendees all used the Ticket Exchange

Meanwhile the drama and prestige of the FA Cup has been diluted by the Semi Finals being staged at Wembley and we've all got a point where it just seems too much of an effort for a hell of a long and expensive day.

I remember the 18/19 season when I travelled to Wembley on all 5 occasions and we did just enough to beat Brighton in the Semi Finals.

Did Brighton go to Wembley 5 times that season?
Did they fuck!
Did the media empathise with our situation when Brighton sold more tickets?
Did they fuck!
