Seat Counters 25/26

Make the new stand:

1. No more than 50% season card
2. Pay on the day - except'category A' games.
3. Unreserved seating (apart from the hospitality areas)

Old school - Get fans in early to 'claim' best positions / be with mates, family etc. Be able to move around if you want.

We're probably never going to fill it anyway!
They probably wouldn't be allowed to do points 2 and 3.

Need to sell more Season Tickets but relax the restrictions.

The only restrictions should relate to ones that are not used regularly.

Have all those counting seats left this thread? If so perhaps it should be renamed!
How about “Hello Darkness my old friend” thread?
Any other suggestions?

Or “get your ticket and find the kick-off time has been moved back seven and a half hours” thread.

Or get nineteen tickets in one hit demonstrating your loyalty, but knowing that any individual weekend game could be played from Friday night to Sunday night. Fans of teams in Europe know some games can't be moved too far but fans are always being pissed about.

My post was an attempt to show that the Newcastle game not selling out isn't unusual for a League cup semi final.
I don't like the way the club have acted over the ticketing issue either, the issues started when they decided you could buy loyalty.
I didn’t mean to attack you as such, and it is important to show historical context to crowds, I just don’t think 1976 is at all relevant to this coming Wednesday. 40,000 was a huge crowd in 1976, it isn’t in 2026, not for a member of the so-called “big six” in the Premier League.

Think the Everton game was given as around 52000 but of course there was always the Peter Swales adjustment factor ! The semi first leg v Liverpool where we were robbed by Alf Gray was I think stated around 48k.
I was at that Everton game but not at it ,I was told to fold a £5 note up to look like a ticket and go over the turnstile .

I agree 100%, but for more context, would suggest that in 1976 it was our only chance of silverware and remained our only success for the next 35 years.

In 2026, we've still got fans naive enough to believe that City can win the quadruple, but more importantly, our interest has been diluted by the fact that we've won the Carabao Cup 6 times in the last 12

A competition that seems to increase and decrease in value each season, depending on whether United or Liverpool reach the Final

The club needs to grasp a proper understanding of its fanbase demographic, by employing an independent Market Research agency to organise professional questionnaires and focus groups amongst seasoncard holders, members and occasional supporters of all ages and genders.

The average attendance was much lower in the mid 80s, but in essence, nothing had really changed since the George Poyser days with so much potential for growth if everything fell into place.
We might have only averaged around 20,000, but literally everyone was a diehard

The average has since more than doubled but my suspicion is that the club has tried to run before it can walk, and we've now got so many new supporters who are more interested in having a pre match burger (whist listening to music and celebrity City supporters being interviewed on City Square) than attending a midweek match

What's more, I don't think they would even attend an evening match in the winter months if it was free.

Unfortunately this has been compounded by those diehards from the mid 80s Mel Machin era now approaching/reaching their 60s, and not fancying midweek matches anymore, but for completely different reasons.

This is why the club needs to act now and make sure that it's not trying to solve the wrong problem whilst establishing and finding solutions to the real issues.
Agree all that
There's a lot for the club to understand before they solve the issues as you say.
For e.g. I suspect a lot of the growth has come from female attendance, think there used to be much less at MR . Do we offer incentives for un attractively timed games e.g.without being stereotypical when my female relatives attend they always want to buy stuff food or shop so if they why not offer vouchers.

Ticket transfer, can we transfer to a mate we bump into and fancies going if we can't go, e.g my listed 'friends' are grand kids, no good for transferring to on a school night.
I was junior fan in the Joe Mercer era (tiny bit before as well) my dad/uncles where from the Eric Brook era of the 30s where they said everyone was a blue back then So there was a generational connection.

It's not the same now because a lot of dad's are from the Ferguson era actively trying to put a spanner in the works of kids attending, need to make it easy for the blue adult they know to bring them.
Let them come with young mates as soon as possible.
So many things to understand and for the club to have solutions for.

I think the attendance for Wednesday will be around the 40k, it'll look very much like it did for Galatasary

I will be in East Stand Upper as usual and I am sure it won't be "entirely empty." I think the crowd will be over 40,000.
You might be lonely up there mate, I originally had them up there as I am on the cup scheme and that's where my ST is , however decided to move to try somewhere else. From what I can see the only tickets sold up there have been to season ticket holders on the scheme, they haven't been on sale for anyone else so would expect a very small crowd up there unless 1000's have been given away.

Pretty sure the third tiers were on sale at first but were taken off after a few days so some will have shifted to fans not on the cup scheme but not very many. @flapjack using his method where he can also see unsold seats currently not on sale puts the remaining number - including those both showing and not showing for sale - at 8290. With nearly 3000 of those being in the bottom 2 tiers, that leaves about 5300-5400 in EL3 and CB3. I think there are around 5500 seats in each of those stands so it indicates that as things stand, those tiers will be roughly half full

Yep Level 3 tickets were taken off sale last Monday and had about 4,500 available at the time. So they were available for fans from the outset, just not in the last week.
