Security at the Etihad

See where you are coming from but security around the whole stadium should be stepped up in my view.

We need make it as difficult as possible for them.
You're falling into the trap that terrorists have set, by leading your life in a cocoon of fear. No stadium in the UK has yet been subject to a terror attack thank goodness. That doesn't mean it won't happen but we can't live our lives on the premise that it might. Yes we should take sensible precautions but how far should we go?

Thinking about the Etihad, people get the Metrolink to/from the game. How can you protect people against someone with a bomb or a gun getting on a packed pre or post match tram? Or someone driving onto one of the car parks with a car full of weapons or driving down Ashton New Road afterwards in a car packed with explosives?

Do you take every possible precaution to protect yourself against the diseases that we know certain lifestyle choices could possibly cause?

in Paris the suicide bombers were hoping to get into the stadium with their vests to do it inside and hurt and kill a lot more people. The steward saw this vest but the terrorist exploded it then killing himself and the steward who saw the vest.

If he didn't see the vest and let him we could be looking at a higher number of deaths.

I think security should be stepped up checks and stewards actually looking at people who may stand out instead of chatting to the other steward about what he did this week.
I'm guessing you are referring to the muslim security guard that none of the mainstream media have mentioned.

Exactly, these bastards want us to live in a climate of fear, disrupt the way we live our daily lives and while of course we must be diligent and take certain security measures we cannot let them dictate the way our society is run,put two fingers up to the brainwashed, barbaric murdering cunts and say you won't terrorise us and the way we live our lives.

Practically every time I go to our stadium I think of terrorism. At the risk of scaremongering, given that the whole stadium is held up by cables, how easy would it be to bring the whole damn lot down with a few bombs outside the stadium?

I think you just have to weigh the probability of an EPL stadium being targeted against the inconvenience to the fans. And IMHO that's something for the league to consider in cooperation with the appropriate government authorities.

Not saying anyone should gamble with human lives, mind. Did you consider stopping flying to away games after the recent airline disasters? Didn't think so.

Never flown to an away game.

We will have stadiums as tight as airports next.... and of course, who is going to pay for it all.... there's an extra tenner on the tickets!
You cannot check every car and every person entering the complex.... you'd have to turn up4 hours before kick off, just not practical.

Just sensible precautions and the last question the answer is sensible and moderation again.

If I were a terrorist and planning an atrocity, I'd be looking at doing it either before a game or as people are coming out, rather than risking getting into the stadium.
It's the impact they were after - during a game. Maybe the other 2 at the stadium planned on staying outside though I'm not sure - it seems only one tried to get in. It's probably only because they tried getting in 15 minutes late that the security/steward was more alert to checking without vast numbers of people about. He's died (we assume), saving hundreds, if not thousands of lives though.

I was trying to weigh up whether we could potentially be a target the other night after this. We're the best performing club in the last few years in the biggest league in the world - i.e. the biggest audiences on TV. We have to step up security - I'm not sure how you can check people for vests as easily/quickly as checking bags.

I know what you are saying but the Yanks manage it.

I 100% agree. The aim of a terrorist is to create panic and fear. I for one think the very best way to fight back is to continue to enjoy what they seem to hate so much.

May I add though, having a good friend who was working in counter terrorism that if said threat has made it to the stadium it's too late. A steward bag search at the turnstile is not going to prevent much, if anything.

Our security is always under threat and it is stopped at source. As PB is saying, if a cell has got to the Etihad or anyother stadium with a bomb, it's far too late and lives will be lost. We as a nation need to rely on those that count to keep us safe, not an £6per hour bag checker.

We can not live our life in fear, they win then.

Keep calm and enjoy what makes us happy, that is how to stick a preverbal two fingers up at such sick minds.
