Semenyo and Guehi subjected to racist abuse: club statement

That's on political forums, not at football matches, a huge difference.

Don't care what people's personal political views are outside football, each to their own, but there's no need for a 71 year old to be racially abusing an opposing football player and getting banned, just because he's a footballer with a different colour skin.
Don’t think it really matters if it’s on a political forum or football match’s I’m trying to state a lot of the older Generation has racist views .

And has seen at this Game it’s happening at football matches . I don’t think for one minute his racism only comes out at Football match’s it’s obviously a way of his life

I think that generation are more likely to be ill-educated than younger ones in that regard, sadly.
Old so called ill educated British people fought and died for this country in massive numbers to preserve our way of life from facists so you have the freedoms to ridicule them decades later

Many, many years ago my mother did not like black people. Until she was on the Midland Pullman from Manchester to London to attend a Cricket Cup Final as a bonus for Lancashire Cricket Club staff - the team were also on the train. Clive Lloyd (a West Indian) wandered down the train during the journey and stopped to speak to everyone. From that time on her opinion changed - "There are some really nice people even though their colour is not the same as ours and that Clive Lloyd was a real gentleman" was her comment after returning home.

A reflection of the way our society is going, these knuckle draggers are empowered and have a political home.
I'd disagree.
Everton supporters heard an Everton fan making racists comments.
They reported the matter to stewards who acted quickly.
In turn the stewards got the police involved and that person was arrested.

That is the reflection of how society is going.

Edit: Thunking about it. Blue cigar is presumably meaning the on line trolls. In which case he is correct. Anonymous dickheads following public racist dickheads.

100%
Years ago that would have been ignored and they'd have got away with it. I remember as a kid sitting in the kippax and someone shouted at Henry to "get a wash".... Everyone around just sat there shocked at what they'd heard but no one said or did anything. The fact people are acting on it now shows society is moving in the right direction. You'll always get the odd one that is still a prick.

Disgusting that people still behave like this and the online shit is why social media is a cesspit. Maybe we can give Guehi our support by banging out this tune for him.
Guehi I love you!!!

Learning they are 71 years old is just wild.

There is definitely a lot of casual racism within that generation, i recognise that it's not entirely their fault, it's what they have grown up with and society has thankfully moved swiftly on from that era in the main and left them behind but it's absolutely their fault for deciding to voice that kind of thing in public.

Hopefully football is all they've got left and losing it for 4 years destroys them.

Obviously quite a lot of the time it's racist Brits spouting off abuse on social media (or in the stadium as was the case with that Everton fan), but more and more often these days a lot of racist comments online - especially on Instagram - are coming from accounts based in South Asia and Africa, rather than Europe. So much of it isn't even linked to purely football-related frustrations - in these cases that we're seeing more and more of, it's South Asians and Africans (some of whom may not even care about football) betting massive amounts of money on football games and then losing their rag because of a mistake or a random moment in the match.

"Commence safety exercise protocol"

Yeah, I wondered about that. A bit like "Inspector Sands Is In The Building." Plus Doku did that "shush" thing after the first goal so it suggests it was in the first half, which is when that stdium announcement was made.

The lads behind me thought that the tannoy was talking to the Everton team, telling them to do a safety drill every time City had the ball.

Our freedoms have not been challenged since the second world war. That ended in 1945, almost 81 years ago. Anyone who fought in that war would be at least 97 now.

I'm not sure anyone is ridiculing them, and I'm even less sure that many veterans are taking to the internet to spout racist shite.

The guy sat behind me at the cup final last year was racially abusing the Palace players (including Guehi) when the lineups were being announced. Genuinely one of the most vile people I'll ever met.

Confronted him on it and he was literally frothing at the mouth screaming "I can say what I want" whilst pushing me.

Went and told the stewards and he followed me down the stairs and suddenly was not as openly racist. "Did you film it?! Did you film it?!"

They didn't kick him out, just moved him elsewhere in the stadium. When I tried to follow it up with City they didn't really do anything and said their hands are tied because it wasn't at the Etihad so couldn't identify him.

So he's probably sat somewhere at the Etihad watching Guehi week in week out now.

If he's reading this: Get out of our club, you absolute scumbag.

Pretty sure it’s their kids generation - the boomers. Sadly most people who were involved in the last world war are no longer with us, otherwise they’d be able to explain to their kids that their views represent everything they themselves fought against.

One of the reasons I'll never go back to Wembley. Went to every game up until the League Cup final in 2014, but started to hate the experience of travelling down. It just wasn't worth it. Decided to go for old time's sake in 2024 for the FA Cup final, during which a bloke 3-4 rows behind me called Onana a "monkey" after he saved a shot. Then the bloke next to me started repeatedly going on at Rashford for being "bling" and for "giving fake meals to little kiddies". Never going back. The ugly Blues come out and Wembley and I've not got the time or the inclination to put up with it anymore.

Racists exist everywhere, every culture, every country, every sex, every age group. The only thing they all have in common is ignorance.

What they don't understand, they hate or fear. Very few, if any, attempt to educate themselves to understand, over and above watching or reading the putrid far right media and social media coverage on immigration.

Many of them haven't done as well as they'd hoped in life so need someone to blame "coming over here taking our jobs", the media coverage gives them the targets they need, so they just go with it.

There can be no rational debate with a racist, they will always try to explain why either they aren't racist, or why they have a right to be.

We in England certainly have zero right to be racist or intolerant of immigrants of any generation. Every St George's cross waving, send them hope saying, knuckle dragger should remember.

It was us that went around the world without invite, talking what we wanted and doing as we pleased. Then getting immigrants to come to our country for our own means, either by force or invite, then complain they need to go home when we'd done with them.

Many will also try to claim "it's just the illegal ones that need to go" or, "it's just those Muslims who want to take over our law". But the common denominator is usually brown faces, it always has been. A brown face usually equals foreigner to these people.

It'd be laughable if it wasn't so horrible and sad.

Yes, ignorance is a bitch.

Racism has always been there but became far less tolerated from the late 1980's. Racists realised that there may be consequences for their views and went more low profile but still had their views. The rise of far right parties who blame migrants for the country's problems have emboldened racists to be more vocal.
I guess the election results tomorrow will let us know what part of the populace is willing to endorse racist views.

I don't doubt there is some casual racism spouted by 71 year olds, but that sort of shit has been gradually reducing (at football grounds) for over forty years to the extent that it should have died out by now.
But arseholes gotta be arseholes I suppose.
