Sergio Aguero - 2016/17 performances

Kun loves it here. Not sure he'd be happy playing 2nd fiddle to GJ though. He knows he'd walk into most top teams

For my money, the smart move would be to keep him for next season and see how it pans out with Jesus. There'll be enough games to rotate them effectively, especially as Jesus is flexible enough to play across the front. And there's no reason why they couldn't play together centrally.
I also suspect that Aguero might thrive as we (hopefully) become more 'Pep-like' in our compactness. At the moment he still gets isolated too often against the opponents centre halves - was a huge problem under Pellegrini, and though it's improved this year, it's still there.

I couldn't care less if he goal hangs all game. 38 goals from 43 starts is all i need to know. We will replace him with somebody who will play it sideways or backwards instead of sticking it in the fucking onion bag ffs!

Where have those stats come from? Out of interest.

Been a long-time lurker in these parts. Saw David Silva get the treatment last season. This season it's Sergio. Just thought I'd try and bring some positive to all the negative.

Firstly, the assists issue. The big fat zero is there not through a lack of Sergio trying to change it. It takes two to make an assist. The passer to make the pass, the recipient to score. Early doors in the season Sergio put young Raheem through on goal at least two times and no goal resulted. The same happened with KDB at Crystal Palace (who hilariously - or not so much - couldn't hit the broad side of a barn this season yet can hit a skinny post with hideous regularity). One for Nolito was called off-side at W Brom, would have had one for Gundogan's first in the same game but for a slight deflection off a defender. Should have had one for David's chance early against Hull a few days ago as well. I'm sure there are more instances, these are just ones that have stuck in my memory.

As for Sergio losing it. He still has all the toys. It's just that this season we've only seen glimpses. There is a reason. He is undergoing a rebirth of playing style. This was never going to happen without some pain. As a result he is questioning his instincts. Because his mind isn't clear his body is reacting sluggishly at times.

The game I think illustrates the most that he still has it is the Barcelona win. Pep adopted the counter attack. Sergio (as well as the much recently slated KDB) was in his element. His pace and power yanked their defence every which way. There was no uncertainty. He excelled against the best team in the world.

In other games where City play more out from the back Sergio has struggled to find a balance between his instinctive individual play and what the system requires of him. But I've seen enough in the last 6 weeks or so to believe that he's turned a corner and is building nicely. Beautifully in fact.

If, as a lot in here have suggested, they are happy for the work Sergio has done this season to bear fruit at another club and that does happen so be it. I know where I'd rather he play. More than anything I hope he does what makes him happy because a happy Sergio is a joy to behold on the pitch.

A lot on here have also said Pep needs time and they are happy to give it to him. Why not give Sergio (and KDB and others) the time to learn and grow alongside him?

People are aware, I presume, that Kun is (yet again) joint top scorer, all competitions taken together, in England this year so far (along with a man whose name shall not pass my lips, but who plies his trade over in Trafford Park). This despite the fact that he was suspended for several games (his own fault) and the fact that anybody who has eyes to see can see that he has been bringing more to the team, running his arse off. Assists be damned. Selling him would be utter madness, and it's not a mistake Pep will make, I hope.

THANK YOU!! Some one who finally makes sense.... With up to 11 games left too... this could easily turn into almost 40 goals. I'm sorry but you're a fool to sell a 40 goal/season man who has "played poorly." GTFO. Another thing that people forget is Kun has lacked a quality striking partner for... well... since he came to the club. Nobody has come close to matching his quality. Now we have that in GJ, i think it's worth keeping the guy and seeing how good this works out.
On another side note, footballers are pretty much always carrying injuries. Performance fucking plummets even with the slightest of knocks, so now there's someone whos good enough to take the pressure of Aguero we might see more consistency than this year. I'm willing to bet you that in his periods of bad form, behind the scenes he's constantly injected with cortisone, patched up and having injuries masked with various preventative measures. Injury fucks your performance so badly it's unreal. Maybe with the pressure off you'll see a better Aguero next year

That's just closing your eyes and wishing we were back in 2012. The reality is that half his goals were in the early stages of the Champion League. In the league he has 16. That's good, but when you have Silva, KDB, Sterling, Sane playing alongside you and you are the main man, I don't think it's special.

There are quite a few strikers with a similar record in the Premiership this season, and what worries me is that I think his game is going. He has been dropped by Argentina, and he he is not as quick as he was. When was the last time you saw Aguero zipping into the space behind the defence running on to a through ball? It never happens. You put Jesus in there and suddenly that becomes an option which is why I think as soon as Jesus gets fit he will be in the 1st team.

His game isnt going he is just changing how he plays like all fast nippy strikers have to do when reach a certain age. Pep will play him with Jesus next season.

Monaco at home first goal. W Brom away first goal. Two that come immediately to mind from this season.

Well yes, but, he hasn't scored 40 goals a season ever, or this season.

The MuEN are headlining a story where we would swap Sergio for Sanchez - what the hell would we do that for? Both are the same age!
So far we haven't seen Kun and Jesus on the pitch together for a full game - to my mind that partnership would be lethal.
If the swap did go ahead, and Pep persists with his single striker formation, who misses out - Jesus or Sanchez?
There must be a big game coming up soon and the MuEN have started the "unsettling City" tactics.

Agreed on every point. It is, on the other hand, difficult for me to see a scenario in which we have Sergio and Sanchez and Jesus. Why would any one of those want to accept being on the bench regularly, which is what that implies? They could all walk into just about any major club in Europe and be guaranteed starters if fit, and they know it.

Why's it difficult? Jesus left, Aguero centre and Sanchez right.

Where did you get 38 from? He's scored 28 for us this season so far, 16 in the PL, 8 in the CL and 4 in the FA Cup.

Come on, that's hardly true. Dzeko played second fiddle to him and had a phenomenal career with us. Look at what he's doing at Roma now.

Tevez was absolutely immense.

Negredo for half a year was unstoppable.

Kun is a legend, but let's be honest here. Historically(and yes, there are exceptions in games here or there) he plays far better on his own with two creators behind him. He's never consistently played well with another striker, and you can hardly say he hasn't had good ones...the three I mentioned, Messi, Higuain etc at Argentina.

Kun has always played the lone wolf better. There's little evidence to say he can play with Jesus on a regular basis.
