Sergio Ramos

Only impact he could have is being the main penalty taker.

What similar impacts, we don’t need a 35 year old center back, we had a very good defensive record

But we will need a CB if Laporte does end up leaving.

We would be left with 3 very good and young(ish) CB's in Dias, Stones and Ake. Adding one of the most successful CB's to ever play the game on a free wouldn't be the worst move in the world when we're looking at the best part of £200m for Kane and Grealish.

There are very few better available CBs on the market and those that are will cost upwards of £50m - do we need another hugely expensive option when part of the reason Laporte is unsettled is being 3rd choice in this squad?

If Laporte goes, Ramos for free makes a huge amount of sense. Obviously if he stays, we don't need to touch the CB position.

I have a profound dislike for this guy, and I don’t think I ever met anyone who isn’t a Madrid supporter with something nice to say about him.

Having said this, I want to repeat that if Laporte is indeed leaving, this is pretty much a perfect deal to make. In my head, I think he would be okay being part of a rotation. And he is a perfect substitute for both Stones and Dias. Him and Dias would make a solid pairing, and most importantly, he has the right kind of leadership profile that is so hard to find to substitute Dias in case of both rotation or injury. The model here is obviously Thiago Silva, but Ramos would bring in even more, with the UCL experience that is nearly unmatched. Sadly I don’t see Ake ever being more than a fourth choice, and a Stones/Ake pairing just isn’t a great match for big games.

I would think the wage issue could be worked out with the “New York City solution”, but of course, I’m just guessing
