Sexual harassment?

Latest update. The company are going to fight it. The lad says he did not mean anything sexual by wahey and was just being friendly. She thinks different. Honestly, I thought they'd cave in and pay her whatever compensation she wanted but they feel that if it went to a tribunal, she'd be laughed at. Oddly enough, talking to workmates from the other shift, they have said for the past few weeks she's been talking about leaving but she can't just jack the job in because she'd not be able to get unemployment benefit if she made herself unemployed.

A woman slapped my arse at work the other day... Am I entitled to a claim? Or should I just do the honourable thing and try and catch her alone in an enclosed space?

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it we now have the equality and diversity act, which covers a whole list of sins including sexual harassment, I hope the following link works:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.un.org/womenwatch/osagi/pdf/whatissh.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.un.org/womenwatch/osagi/pdf/whatissh.pdf</a>

The act relies on whether remarks are welcomed or unwelcome and this is were the problem lies. Your mate shouting wa-hey to the cleaner to you and I seems like a bit of humorous fun or banter to be welcomed, but to the cleaner if she finds the wa-hey to be unwelcome banter or fun then unfortunately your colleague is guilty of sexual harassment.

The act in my opinion is barmey as there are so many grey areas, like telling a joke between yourself and a mate and somebody passing by hears it and are offended, then you can be found guilty under this act whether it be sexual, racialist, gender etc.

You have to be very careful about your actions at work these days, what was seen as banter is no longer aloud.

crazy world. or not!!!

I've just found out that it is the lad we all suspected and all he did was shout "wa-hey" from the top of his machine as she walked across the shop floor to the canteen. How the fuck is that sexual harassment?

Pretty sad and OTT to class that as sexual harassment if you ask me.

It's not on though mate. This lads life could be ruined by this. Apparently, the bosses have been quizzing him on what exactly he meant by "wa-hey", dragging all people in the office to ask if they heard him shout it. When he was doing overtime on our shift, I heard him shout it. So fucking what, it's not an insult or anything. I understand that if a woman was TRULY being harassed at the workplace it's wrong and disciplinary measures should be taken but this is fucking ridiculous.

i agree, the greedy woman is trying to bleed money out of a nothing situation.
Not just trying mate, she'll succeed. She'll probably walk away with about 10k in her arse pocket. Disgusting.

What?
Her arse or the money? :)

Where I work, we had a woman cleaner who, without wishing to be politically incorrect, is a bit of a porker. We hadn't seen her for a few days and when we asked where she was, we were told she had left after someone made a sexually explicit comment to her and she intends to sue for sexual harassment. The company have addressed the cleaning situation by employing a slimmer, younger and prettier cleaner who walks around with her tits busting out from her top. We have been told we are not allowed to speak to her or be in a room alone with her (toilet, canteen etc ).
Now, as far as I know, there were no witnesses to the alleged comments but it looks like the company are going to pay the fatty some compensation. Surely, this is an admission of guilt and the lad accused is having his name tarnished without any evidence at all. I think she just found another job and decided to try her luck with the no win no fee charlatans.

The lad accused, "mate" of yours is he?
We've got a pretty good idea who it is and it could ruin his relationship with his girlfriend if the company pay out. Or were the inverted comma's on the word mate a suggestion that it's me? I promise you pal, if you saw her, you'd see that nobody would made a sexually suggestive remark towards her.

Tell him to buy her a big mac meal and all will be ok

wahey i smell a constructive dismissal coming..... are you sure when the sexual harassment wahey was made he wasn t waving his hands around his arse in a like wahey fatty arse kinda way?

When I was working I got called in before for something I said to woman. I was out cleaning in the yard and the fat woman threw a smoke to the ground when the bin was right beside her and was doing it for weeks. I snapped called her back and she blanked me so followed her into her office with the butt and said to her. " Miss Piggy put your cig butt in the bins ". I found out latter that she went to the MD about it and I was called into the office for the meeting. She was claiming I call her Miss Piggy as in I was slagging her weight. I said not a chance I was slagging her over her weight more so as a Irish phrase Piggy Dirty. To cut the story I got off with a warning which pissed me off as I didnt do anything wrong. She went on the sick so called sick for 2 weeks the fat woman.
