Sgt Alexander Blackman

For the record fella I did 22 years for Liz, Gulf Medal 1st time round and GSM for 2 active tours of Iraq.... Guard Commander for the first democratic elections in Iraq (Basra Air Base) after Saddam.. the day the Hercules got shot down... I think that gives me the right to say what I feel is right or wrong in this case so maybe don't be too quick to judge people.

Blackman broke the rules of the Geneva Convention whether outdated or not... simple....As a SNCO he would have lived and breathed rules. As mentioned only he will ever know if it was combat stress induced....

Strange isn't it? I have three tours of the province under my belt and the south Atlantic medal, I feel exactly the same as you, he shouldn't have done it!

Why did you go quiet last night?

For a man who admittedly knew very little about it you're very opinionated.

He did make a mistake, I'm not going to argue with that, but given the circumstances it wasn't murder.

I "went quiet" because I'd just finished an eight hour coach trip and met up with my girlfriend. To be honest, looking back I don't really see anything that needed responding to as it was all going in circles.

At the end of the day, I disagree with the view that anyone who works for the armed services is automatically granted "hero" status. It's total and utter bullshit to be quite honest. The people who serve are just that; people. Many commit heroic deeds, many are complete scumbags and those two aren't even mutually exclusive.

You've admitted Blackman made a mistake so why do you think it's controversial that someone would have an issue with a number of extreme posts which not only glorify this mistake but suggest that the action he took was not extreme enough?

You keep on banging on about me not knowing the facts so I'd be interested if you could point me in the direction of a single fact that would back up a certain poster's view that Blackman should have pissed on the man before shooting him.

But whatever, I don't care to be quite honest. You've repeatedly missed the point and I would be astonished if you managed to get it this time around.

Stop talking sense, the lefties on here we start calling you disgusting.

And this perfectly encapsulates my point. The comment that you've just responded to was perfectly rational and a considered opinion. No problem whatsoever with it.

But I guess it's easier for you to label people twats and lefties than engage that mush between your ears.

I find the whole idea of someone who hasn't been in the armed forces claiming there's many scumbags and they aren't "heroic" quite repulsive to be honest. These people guard you whilst you sleep and whilst you've balanced it out by saying many do heroic things, what you've said still doesn't sit right with me.

His mistake was making it into the situation it is.

The bloke was heavily injured, which is a piece of evidence you've missed and was a huge risk to care for, using depleted medical supplies on and call in support for.

Add to the fact who this guy was I don't blame Blackman at all and would have done it myself probably.

Another poster on here who has served has said this thing would happen often but the evidence is covered up. I'm the heat of battle when a terrorist is heavily injured, putting the fucker out of his misery isn't a bad thing.

We'll never agree so let's leave it.

I have.

The post I made in which you've just quoted was me saying people who don't appreciate the armed forces are twats.

I agree with your other post where tky said if he'd have deleted the evidence then there would be no debate, I'm sure that's what he regrets more than anything.
Fair point...

Ah, the get out clause that is the Geneva Convention....that governs everything and a man's state of mind during war.

Something written up like every other law that you and I ignore on a daily basis, but want to pontificate about(of course I get the difference) - we all speed and it's a fucking law we all break....

I expect most of us on here have broken a law or two but most cannot begin to separate the difference.

Very few will have walked the deathlands of Afghan with a weapon wondering where the next landmine or suicide bomber might appear from.

Everyone on here has had a mate slain brutally before their very eyes on a foreign land too, haven't they? Witnessed the carnage of an IED blowing your mate to absolute fuck?

The sheer cowardice with which they fight their war - hiding behind women and children! If captured the threat of beheading or set on fire -( that fucking horrifies me) that poor Jordanian pilot, fucking god rest you , mate, those savages, evil fucking filth!

I doubt there's a single man on this forum capable of doing Sgt Blackman's job - hell, I doubt most blokes on here would not get anywhere near CTCRM and become a Royal Marine Commando - let alone go to war!

I am pleased Sgt Blackman will be released after serving his time, and he will secure his pension too.

Good on ya, Royal.
