sh*t style of football

He didn't, it was Kompany, but De Jong would presumably be the holding player if available.

normally in the diamond the anchor man is a bit of a pass master, even at the expense of his defensive ability.

defensive responsibility tends to be spread between the three players, the wider two of the three now have to cover the attacking fullbacks. the advantage being that they are close to hand, and that the central DM is freed up to concentrate on starting the play.

Pirlo behind Seedorf and Gattusso, being the classic example.

still can't see any system or style of play developing yet,
even with the player's missing,
who is going to link up the defence with the attack.
midfield out passed and over run once again.
This is not a moan just wondering,
when or who is going to make city look a Unit.
it's like a child learning to write.
when do we go to joined up writing. :-(

Teams often look shapeless when being dominated by opposition. They then have a winning game and the team pattern is great. How often do hear a fan cursing his team one week then being over the moon with them the next?

This is pre season, it is training, it does not matter. Given our record I would be a lot more worried if we looked great. I remember us having a great pre season under Frankie Clarke ffs.

It is a slight concern to me that no discernable favoured system seems to have been implemented. We have played umpteen systems.

Some players appear to have been put in the shop window, which I do understand.

We'll see over this next 2 games where we are. I expect a recognisable system and coherent play.

Pre-season games don't matter in isolation, but when you are chucking together a new team like the manager is, you need to see progress and cohesion in the friendlies.

10 men against Inter makes this impossible, I do conceed. A good workout for the defensive players, of course.

I don't think you will see a single style of play used consistently over the season. I think Mancini will likely use several different systems of play during the season depending on the opponents and players available for selection. I think we'll see a 4-4-2, 4-3-1-2 & possibly even a 4-3-3 at times.

Yeah we're playing a shit style of football, we have since Mancini arrived, but lets see how it goes in proper matches and not glorified training sessions. If he plays a shit style of football and fails to get results then he'll certainly know about it.
