Young people being allowed to atone for their mistakes is a cornerstone of a civilised society.

If they blow that opportunity then it‘s on them, but they should be given that chance.

That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be punished but the opportunity for redemption should always be there. It’s the reason we don’t send youth murderers to prison for life. Begum should be afforded the same opportunity, if that’s the path she chooses by being allowed to come back and serve an inevitable lengthy sentence.
