Shane McGowan RIP (P8)

Even though it was coming this has really upset me . One of the greatest songwriters of his generation and all time . A true poet and gentleman who lived his life and did what he wanted . His songs will go down in history . Goodbye Shane and see you on the other side one day .

probably my favourite lyrics to any song i've heard. monumental genius, will be sorely missed.

Mine too, especially as an emigrant.

Although, point of order, it was written by Philip Chevron who was in the Pogues at the time. I had always thought that it was a Shane song, but he he sing it as only Shane could.

The amount of people who think it's an Irish song, it really annoys me it's about Salford albeit covered by the Dubliners and the Pogues
And a song that's been adopted by them sickly bastards at The Pallet shed. Because of that shower, I now dislike this song.

First time I ever heard it being thought of as an Irish song.

Heard Shane McGowan a few times and he gives an introduction about that song before he sings it.

Same with No man's landny Eric Bogle, a Scottish/australian folk song that many think is Irish
