Sheffield United (H) | Post-Match Thread

I ventured into the match day thread today, Few posters thought Dinhos time is surely up after today's performance, I really do think some of our fans are watching another match or just fuckin idiots, Anyway another win well grinded out.

You went on the match day thread? Big mistake.
Fernandinho may not start many games these days, but when he does, he is still one of the best players on the pitch, and he showed that today. His know how is going to be vital for us over the next four months.

It was another win and clean sheet. Didn’t seem to have the increased tempo of late but did enough.

At Christmas if someone would of offered 7pts ahead of Liverpool on equal games by end of Jan I would of taken that. Even more so when Kev is out injured.

Walker was at the heart of everything we did bad today.

He never tried to create anything on his side and jammed in Torres, with only Bernie trying any form of penetration.

He gave away a stupid free kick at the end and was also at fault for the McBernie chance.

It is becoming increasingly clear that we don't need to rely on Walker's recovery pace anymore because of Dias' arrival and outstanding positional leadership.

That only exposes Walker's limitations, he can only pass inside, doesn't join up the midfield and is impetuous in tackle.

Cancelo clearly takes his position and our set-up to the next level, all the same, Pep should still be able to expect a top performance from Kyle against this standard of opponent?

Pep is obviously trying to keep players fresh but surprised he didn't bring Mahrez or Sterling on for Torres and switch the focal point of attack.

Kudos to Fern, Zin and Bernie today, they were only ones at it with Dias.

Well as bad as you think Walker was he still won the most tackles for us and completed 94.1% of his 101 passes; only Foden had better completion stats but made less than half the number of passes.

I also though his recovery pace was useful on occasion.

That foul was daft and he did play conservatively but I'm not sure he jammed Torres in: I think Torres did that himself and is still getting to grips with our positional play game whereas Walker knows it inside out.

Pretty sure he did create at least one thing on his side with a brilliant long ball that put Torres away.

Canelo is though a different proportion going forward but he still is not as good as Kyle defensively and our current success is built on our defence so I see Walker as remaining important to Pep; plus Cancelo can play on the left, where he and Zin must be ahead of Mendy.

Walker was doing his job as part of a back three today and I'm guessing Pep will have been quite happy with it.

One of those games you never remember but are just as important as other wins.

Positives- another clean sheet, Fernandinho quality, Bernado is definitely back, Foden and Gundo carried on their good form, Torres wasn’t consistent but had 4/5 moments of brilliance, Zinchenko looks at his best.

Negatives- The more time goes on the more I’ve lost faith Jesus being good enough to start for us. Walker was crap but been injured so will cut him some slack, he needs to stop the brain farts though. We were very poor in tempo, pedestrian. Laporte defended well but he was too slow moving it forward.

Move on to Burnley and hope others drop points.

Sky co- commentator...’clearly a shove in the back of Torres there, but no penalty’...laughable if it wasn’t so obvious.
He went down easily but there was contact....players from other teams are apparently entitled to go down if there is contact, or are clever for doing so.

Three points. It was always going to be a tough watch. SU are tough to play against when they are up for it and they were defo up for it. We played ok without much sparkle. Laporte, Torres and Walker all look a little ring rusty so they needed that outing. 4 points clear at the top. :-)

Thank fuck for that, I couldn't stand another second of them two pricks willing Sheffield United to score, fuckin outrageous commentary once again.

Oh and has VAR clocked off before our match? Didn’t we get a pen v villa for a similar handball? Has that rule changed? Lots of VAR decisions on the pitch that usually get scrutinised yet not one got slowed down and shown from different angles.

Great 3pts, gritty performance with the handbrake on, did enough to beat an inform blades team.

Top of the fuckin league.
Thought exactly the same! Why not the 5 different views of the handball? Expect more of the same as the season goes on
