Sheffield United (H) | Post-Match Thread

Another clean sheet, another 3 points = the stuff of champions. Did just about enough against a dogged defensive team. Laporte easing back but needs to regain some confidence to not always turn inside, he was so reluctant to use his left foot and give us extra width. Other than that all did their jobs - special mentions for Dias (as usual), Bernardo for his work rate and Zinchenko who looked very comfortable. Onto the next one.
why would laporte be reluctant to use his left foot ? hes left footed

Somebody explain how VAR is applied. There were two pens that are nailed on for the other nineteen teams in this league. The push on Torres and the handball at the end. Does the ref decide that there's nothing doing and so VAR is just not used or is VAR bellowing down his earhole DON'T GIVE THESE BASTARDS A PEN! The whole point of VAR is that you can see an incident again. Clear bloody penalties. Why did we not see the game stopped whilst the wankers in the VAR whelk stall have a look, and see that for shame you couldn't say no pen. We're cheated twice a game.

Great win. And vital to get minutes in the likes of Walker, La Porte and Torres-we will need everyone.

Thank fuck for that, I couldn't stand another second of them two pricks willing Sheffield United to score, fuckin outrageous commentary once again.

Oh and has VAR clocked off before our match? Didn’t we get a pen v villa for a similar handball? Has that rule changed? Lots of VAR decisions on the pitch that usually get scrutinised yet not one got slowed down and shown from different angles.

Great 3pts, gritty performance with the handbrake on, did enough to beat an inform blades team.

Top of the fuckin league.
VAR didn't give this - said it was in the "green zone" (i.e. the upper arm).

I think PGMOL is making its own rules again.

We have played a games every 3 days for the past six weeks. We are not going to wallop teams every game and some games will be a slog and not easy to watch, the most Important thing is we are winning and not conceding goals

am not really knocking the win and 3 points is the only thing that matters
but am old school and always get the feeling we will slip up and let them score and they nearly did

the defence is solid and dais is a man mountain future captain and to think was was ready to spend £90million on koulibaly hahahaha

Great win that. Sheffield United are a very decent, stubborn side who were also protected by a really shit ref. Brave team selection from the boss and the most important thing was 4/5 players that really needed game time getting solid minutes. Happy with that.

I ventured into the match day thread today, Few posters thought Dinhos time is surely up after today's performance, I really do think some of our fans are watching another match or just fuckin idiots, Anyway another win well grinded out.

I stick well clear of the matchday thread ;)

'Real world, not a fairytale'

FT: Manchester City 1-0 Sheffield United

Manchester City
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: "People think if we won the last one 5-0, we will win this one 5-0. This is the real world, not a fairytale.
"Today when I see Sheffield is bottom of the league. You see his team and realise how tough is the Premier League. We always struggle to beat them every season. It was an incredible performance. We played incredibly well in many areas. We conceded few chances. We didn’t create much but enough to win the game.
"Everyone has to be ready. They are so humble. Ferran Torres and Gabriel Jesus are always thinking about the team. I’m so grateful for them.
On their 12-game winning run: “In December and January to show this consistency is amazing. We will drop points, it’s about how we overcome it.
“In this league every game is so difficult. Hopefully we react good in the bad moments which for sure are coming."

Manchester City
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports: “It was so difficult. We knew it would be. It was amazing after this run of 12 wins in a row. Still the players run and fight like animals. We conceded one chance at the end. Sheffield United are a difficult opponent. Every time we play them we struggle.
"We said this will be one of the toughest games of the season and it was. The weather is the same for both sides. It’s so difficult because they defend with 10 players. Their team have been together a long time so they know what to do. Nothing is given just because we are blue.
"We started good. We maintained it in the second half. We struggle because they are a very good side. They are alive, you can feel it. They shout, they talk, they stick together until the end."

'We cannot drop points at home'

Manchester City
Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus: "That’s what we want, win the game. At the end of the season we’ll see if we fight for the title. This season is a difficult season for everyone. We cannot drop at home. We did not drop and won the game.
"We have to look at our job. We are first, top of the league. We have to go to the pitch and try to win the games. At home we cannot drop points.
"It’s important [to end his goal drought]. To play for a top club I have to score. Today we didn’t have the space to play. I have the first chance, I scored and that’s good for me and the team."
