Sheffield Utd (A) post match thread

Rodri is very nice sat in front of the Dias and Laporte. Also we are suddenly physically imposing again which is why Sheffield didn’t try pumping the ball forward till the last 10 mins. Basically with those 3 you ain’t wining much in the air. Which totally takes away a dimension of how to damage us. If you are camping deep your plan is to break on us.. being inferior in the air basically halves your options.
This is Pep’s fifth season with us (amazing to think that) and for the first time we have a strong centre back pairing and defensive midfielder that blends control of the play with a presence in the air. It is an acknowledgment from the great man that an EPL side needs both.

Ederson very poor, didn't make a save.
Stones just as ba
Will take that. Rodri getting better each game and isn't letting them play around him anymore, which eliminates the need for two defensive midfielders somewhat. Having Bernardo alongside with his energy was helpful too.

Cancelo gives me kittens defensively, beaten far too easily and then just throws up his hands instead of rolling up his sleeves. Mahrez is off form, he suits certain plays cutting inside and we are short of numbers, a goal may fix it but inform he doesn't deserve a starting place.

What was up with that challenge in the first half minute? No card? Did the referee forget he'd already started the game?
Cancelo defensively is crap and is too easily beaten, would play Ake at LB against the Dippers

I’m not one for verbally abusing City players, regardless of poor performances but I think Pep needs to bench Mahrez for a while and see how he goes as an impact sub, as some in here say, he doesn’t fit the way he’s playing at the moment, his vision is poor and he needs to stop showboating ... Some of the abuse against him in the match day thread needs to be toned down, it’s not acceptable for Blues to be so vitriolic against one of our own ....

There is no joy in that City squad. Certainly no joy watching them. I enjoyed the Pearce days more that this. And I'm not joking. Give me Vassell and Cole over Sterling and Mahrez. Or
Bosvelt over Rodri. We are awful. Something needs to change. Probably the only change is me walking away finally.
It'll end the danger of me ending up sat next to you at least.

I don't get Pep sometimes, he moans that we should have 5 subs due to the number of games, and then only uses 2, and none till 80 minutes.

I can't say with any certainty but maybe given what happened to Fernandinho, Pep's looking to avoid making any subs he doesn't absolutely have to on the day.

Positives

Clean sheet

Defence 80% fantastic

Rodri looking the part

Foden is a game changer

Torres settling in well
Settled things down with those runs down the left and that gave us a breather. Never in doubt after that . Pep needs to make the switch earlier though . Mahrez could have been switched to the left at the start of 2nd half and Sterling to the right. Its switches like that makes the opposition think because they've got to counter it.

Not sure you've got that right mate ....

in my opinion Rodri was MOTM , and was absolutely faultless today .... and Bosvelt, who was with us 2003-2005, certainly wasn't perfect, we weren't even a top eight side back then !

And Sterling was definitely a MOTM contender at half time ... it was only after that he faded , like others up front,.
