Sheffield Utd (A) post match thread

I may rightly be characterized as a Pollyanna...

But my take away from our Sheffield United win is that we are now very strong defensively - and are more than capable of grinding out a 1-0 or 2-1 win when we aren't scoring with our usual proficiency.

Across the back, Walker, Dias and Laporte are all very solid - I think we're a bit exposed on the left, but if Ake starts at left back, I think we're good enough defensively there too.

Once Aguero and Jesus are fit again, I think we're the best team in the league

And we're only 2 points off the top in spite of our terrible start; I think that we're favorites to win the league this year.

TL/DR
We are now capable of grinding out wins in games where we don't play our best - which, I think, was lacking in our previous campaign.

Watched it again myself, even more baffled how we only managed 1 goal in that first half.
Yep - and we had a bunch of chances 2nd half too - just unlucky IMO. This game should have finished 3-0 or 4-0 City on most days... or perhaps 4-1 as SU did have a chance or two that fizzled out.

Would be very concerning if we can’t even beat one of the worst teams in the league currently. Pointing out the obvious about our attackers being impotent. Good result but the overall game is lacking. It is what is as long as United or Liverpool don’t win the title. With how we are playing 3rd/4th place is looking like a good season.
Crap!

I don't know, I'm not saying you're wrong on this occasion and some of your points I agree with but I just don't see any exhaustion in his play at the moment. If anything, I thought he improved as the game wore on yesterday.

The problem might be that he's being used as the single creative outlet in midfield whereas before it was divided between him and David. It makes it all the more infuriating when you've got Foden sat on the bench when we've seen just how effective they can be when played together.
I agree with Tolmie. He was blowing out of his arse even in the 1st half. It was obvious to me there was a drop off in his fitness, he looked like he was running in treacle at times. It won't happen but I'd rest him on Tuesday or give him 45 mins at most

He's fucking knackered mate, he's running himself into the ground due to a lack of rest and admits himself had just seven days break since last season ended.

I don't recall your reference to last season either, outside of him coming back from injuries too quickly to help the team.

Tiredness impacts players in different ways. Kev will always have a low percentage in certain areas because he takes risks.

When you are not as fit as you can be, you make the wrong choices to compensate for the things you can't do.

Players like Mahrez mean De Bruyne is having to do too much.

Take a look how many times KDB is having a go at Mahrez in games - and not just this season.

We need him to be the best he can be because he's the world class difference.

a certain individual in jan transfer window would do the trick

great result, i for one cant really fathom the harsh criticism - ok we dont look very special going forward at the moment but surely our defence has improved leaps and bounds.

interesting discussion on whether a team can truly have our attacking flair of two seasons ago and be very stable at the back, maybe some things have to be sacrificed. anyway, solid platform, onwards. The regularity of fixtures is a concern.

three points and not for one minute did I feel as though we would come away with less.

i would settle for feeling like that all season
