Sheffield Utd (A) post match thread

Just seen the short highlights again, and their goalie has done the business for them. Another day, another team and that effort from Torres that 'hit' the goalie goes a foot wide of his chest and in, and the free from Mahrez? Had it bounced just before the line it would have gone over the goalie's dive. It might be that we look at the finishing and deem it to be less than clinical, but the Sheff goalie earned his crust of 'brrrrrrown brrrrrrrread 'n butter'!

You've been questioning his work rate and fitness levels intermittently for the last year or two and I really can't wrap my head around it. He's one of the hardest working players in the team and last time I saw you say it was in the middle of a season when he equalled the assist record and won player of the year so I don't think it's hindering his decision making.

I don't see anything wrong with him other than him not quite pulling off as many audacious passes so far this season.
It's not unfair to say not only did he not make the passes when we were in great positions on more than one occasion but he made the wrong choices in trying to make those passes. You can say he was tired etc etc. I think it's been more noticeable in his play this season. Maybe he does need a break for a week or two.

I would go one step further and suggest that it was creeping in last season, but was ignored, mainly due to him being such a popular player.
The obvious example was the lack of criticism that followed his.mistake in the LC Semi Final, which allowed United to get back into the game.

You think Messi would run 13km in a game?
No lol but does marhez ? Messi would scare the shit out of our opponents meaning KDB wouldnt need to be doing 13km per game as team would sit even deeper against us.
Therefore KDB puts more energy into attacking with killer passing. Plus Messi would be marked by 2 or 3 players leaving more space for the rest of our team

We looked pretty solid defensively, they only had a couple of half chances. I thought Rodri looked much better without Gundogan next to him. I thought we were much better to watch first half than some of the other recent games, we seemed to have much more purpose with the passing. Dropped off a little bit second half but still controlled the game. Good performance overall.
They had an excellent chance to score close to the end which Ederson did well to keep out.
So assured during most of the match, but there's always a chance at 1-0 for an opponent to steal a couple of points off us in the last knockings of a game.
We need to keep up or increase our effort in the last quarter of an hour, (as demonstrated by the rags!)

He's fucking knackered mate, he's running himself into the ground due to a lack of rest and admits himself had just seven days break since last season ended.

I don't recall your reference to last season either, outside of him coming back from injuries too quickly to help the team.

Tiredness impacts players in different ways. Kev will always have a low percentage in certain areas because he takes risks.

When you are not as fit as you can be, you make the wrong choices to compensate for the things you can't do.

Players like Mahrez mean De Bruyne is having to do too much.

Take a look how many times KDB is having a go at Mahrez in games - and not just this season.

We need him to be the best he can be because he's the world class difference.
