Sheffield Wednesday on the brink… | Enter administration (p30)

The summer has been an absolute sh*tstorm, to the point so much has happened I couldn't be bothered to update on here as I have in the past on EFL matters.

May wages not fully paid
June wages not paid to staff/1st team
HMRC bill for June not paid
Manager expected to be announced as new Leicester City boss later this week
All coaches are out of contract
No Pre-season friendlies scheduled
No new Kit expected
North Stand needs work before season start otherwise a safety certificate will not be issued
Season Ticket money from early bird sales (I bought mine in January for the cheapest price) was most likely used before last season ended to prop up the finances
Any player who has not received May/June wages can give the club notice of contract termination, if the club doesn't pay what they owed within 15 days they can leave for free. I understand several players have exercised that right (good for them)
Work to upgrade the training ground has ceased due to money.
We are under an embargo for failing 2 EFL rules, this would be removed if outstanding debts are settled by Chancer or a new owner
We have a 3 window transfer window ban, and can only sign freebies or loans that do not involve a fee (including agents) with a maximum wage of £7k a week.
Chancer has turned down 2 bids for the club, he originally wanted £300 million (what a joke). The club is worth £40-50m at most, especially as the club doesn't own the stadium, Chancer does after he sold it to himself to navigate PSR rules in 2017/18 (he fucked that up so we got a 12 point deduction, reduced to 6 anyway which ultimately relegated us in 20/21 season)

Everyday there are more stories coming out of the club, football seems a million miles away at the minute, I'm more concerned if we actually start the season. It has Bury vibes about it.

Bottom line is we're royally up sh*t creek without a paddle.

If we do start the season I could see a team made up of U21's and journeymen players that nobody wants, and even they won't appear until after September 1st.
Bloody hell what a catalogue of fuck ups. Hope all gets sorted pal.

It's a sobering thought, but you have the 3 examples of how to run a underdog football club in a big UK city.
First is the shit show currently in Sheffield and how not to do it. Then Birmingham and a club in transition and once in free fall, now beginning to dream again. Then Manchester, where the original phoenix from the ashes continues to grow and add value to the club and the area.
(And yet they still want to stop us.)

Three second teams in major UK cities.

We can only hope for the best for Wednesday and that there is a Sheikh or similar out there with an idea or dream and the funds to do it.

I thought City were bad at our lowest point but that is a remarkable catalogue of fuck ups. Best of luck, Wednesday is a famous old club and needs someone who knows what they are doing to take over. AND DO NOT LET THE IDIOT GET AWAY WITH THE GROUND. See Palace.

I would argue Wednesday are the primary team in Sheffield, just been down on their luck and poorly run for 25 years

The rules prevent one club from financially propping up another in the PL/EFL.
Whether the authorities would let CFG do this is unknown, but doubtful.
Khaldoon could turn them around in five minutes then sell to a good owner and make a profit.
Remember Maxwell owning both Oxford and Derby and he had to give one up as he could not own both

I have no issues with Sheffield Wednesday, and for the sake of their followers, good luck to them. But surely the most weird second name for a football club after Hamilton Academicals. Any others?
Now live the North East.
Some interesting names in the Northern League :-
Billingham Synthonia
West Allotment Celtic
Blyth Spartans
Bedlington Terriers

Some cracking non-league grounds up here, as well...

And Coventry.
