OK, here's a full update for you. We've had the translations done for us, straight from the top brass in Abu Dhabi (thanks to the club for sorting that out).
We've gone for the largest banner possible, which was 40m x 1.2m. As a reference, our "Sixth day..." banner is 25m long, so this one is going to be pretty big as you can imagine.
After much deliberation we went with "Manchester thanks you, Sheikh Mansour". The Arabic translation is on the left, with the Manchester Coat of Arms in the middle, and the English translation on the right.
Because it's so long and thin, it's not really worth putting a picture of the design on here as the maximum width you can display on the forum is 800px so to keep it proportional the image would only be 24px high! Here's a
link to a pdf of it though.
Basically because of the dimensions dictated to us by the club we were unable to closely follow the designs some came up with on here (doing it to whatever dimensions you like in Photoshop is one thing, doing it on the actual dimensions we had to work with is another!).
The banner has been sent off for printing and hopefully we should have it by next week, and up in time for the Wolves game.
Still waiting for final costing, but there is going to be some money left over (possibly a couple of hundred quid), so we need to decide what to do with it. We could put it towards the next banner we do, but I thought it would be a nice gesture to put some of it towards something for Freddie (the 3 year old lad who got hit by a brick at the Celtic game). Maybe £100 worth of Toys R Us vouchers?!
However, any suggestions from those who contributed more than welcome, should have a better idea of how much exactly is left next week.
Anyway, hope people are happy with it, apologies if not. It's been a bit of an ordeal getting everything sorted, and doing things by committee is rarely straightforward!
Many thanks to Kinky by Name (for the original concept and ongoing help), Rammy Blue (for production), and Vicky Kloss for sorting out translations. Finally, many thanks to eveyone who contributed. Great effort by all involved.
