Shell Profits £32.2 billion

It’s to cater for the people with electric vehicles when it takes 30 minutes (if you are lucky) to charge up.
They’ll be sticking a knocking shop on the back next then although what would we do for the other 25 minutes

They are engaged in fiscal consolidation which is a fancy word for increasing taxes and reducing spending. The idea is to reduce borrowing and slow the growth of debt. Increased taxes by stealth is good for gov, cos the headline rate stays the same. Thus, as wages rise people slip into a higher tax band. What you describe is a bit like a stealth tax so I guess they will be happy with it.
Thanks for explanation.

Whatever their policy is they certainly "inflated' the price of energy so apologies if I used the word "inflation" when the Gov seems to reserve that particular word for its own definition.

So perhaps I should say to the Gov that the consumer has a right to ask that at a time of high inflation why does it continue to add to that extra cost by demanding far more in tax than it budgeted for?

Because they can.
Look out for the next budget!

A fine array of opposition politicians and union leaders talked about obscene profits yesterday but not one mentioned the fact that only about 5% of that is profit earned in Britain. Intellectually dishonest or ignorant?
That 5% or so is still a huge amount of money and profit compared to the millions of worse off people in the UK who cannot afford to heat their home .
