Yes, but the guys I mentioned all talked about £40biliion as tho it was British profit and used this number to demand more tax. This is deceiving the public. That 5% or so is still a huge amount of money and profit compared to the millions of worse off people in the UK who cannot afford to heat their home .
Why?nationalise shell I say
Given their education levels, likely very dishonest.A fine array of opposition politicians and union leaders talked about obscene profits yesterday but not one mentioned the fact that only about 5% of that is profit earned in Britain. Intellectually dishonest or ignorant?
Top one: A bit unfair given Shell pulled out of their facility in Russia and wrote off £3.5bn in the process.
Nah, everything is black and white and there’s no fucking room for nuance.Yes, but the guys I mentioned all talked about £40biliion as tho it was British profit and used this number to demand more tax. This is deceiving the public.
Nobody has mentioned that Shell’s taxable income in uk is zero as they are allowed to offset certain items such as decommissioning for environmental reasons. Nevertheless they will pay a sizeable chunk of windfall tax. Nobody mentioned the amount of capital employed which has to be factored in when assessing whether profits are excessive or not. What was the ROC for the British business?
How we can hope to solve our problems with this type of childish rhetoric I do not know. No wonder people in industry, who work a damn sight harder than these deadbeat politicians get pissed off with them.
Just the same old same old political nonsense.
why not?Why?
There has to be a reason for such a major undertaking. Have you any idea of the capital the taxpayer would have to come up with?why not?
And how many people have Shell shares in their pension fund? The dividend payback should be pretty good after these results and so everyone will see some return as a result.Yes, but the guys I mentioned all talked about £40biliion as tho it was British profit and used this number to demand more tax. This is deceiving the public.

It is a staggering profit there is no getting away from the fact in a world that is on its arse for one reason or another and Joe average is struggling to make ends meet . Politically it is not “a good look” and perfectly fits the “greed “ narrative. No matter how the political football is kicked around it is an obscene profit in the current world “climate “ where many of the super rich are getting a whole lot richer very quickly to the detriment of many others . ;-)Yes, but the guys I mentioned all talked about £40biliion as tho it was British profit and used this number to demand more tax.
