Shooting at Mandalay Bay Resort (Las Vegas)

It's all about rights and an American's right to bear arms... no chance they will ever recover the situation .... they are too stupid (or they have zero appetite to reconsider the rules) and more important the NRA make billions annually.... a very sad state of affairs

I've had conversations with American colleagues and some on cruises and explained that I am glad that our police and the public generally aren't armed... they just don't get it....

I understand their right to bear arms for self defense (though I don't agree) but surely there has to be a limit. Small calibre handgun and a dozen rounds should stop a burglar.

A hunting rifle and a dozen rounds for those moose hunting idiots.

Then any lunatic on a killing spree can only do so much damage!

How ? Body search everyone coming in and out of the hotel ... hundreds of people every day.

Thousands more like. In fact, tens of thousands as I'm sure you know having visited the place. Anyone else who has been will know just how big these hotels are. I think the MGM Grand alone has over 5000 hotel rooms. The size of these places give a bizarre sense of perspective insofar as when walking down the strip you think the hotels are a lot closer than they actually are.

I'm still trying to comprehend what's happened - I fucking love Vegas and have been inside the Mandalay Bay when we headed up that way visiting the famous Vegas sign. While downtown Vegas can be a dodgy place for tourists if you wander a little bit away from Fremont Street, the main strip is one of the safest places you could ever wish to visit.

Has it been called out as terrorism in the mainstream media yet?

"lone wolf" and "local white male" is all I'm seeing.
Whether something is terrorism isn't determined by the body count, it's determined by whether there's some sort of underlying ideology or political aim. Until we know that, it's accurate to not call it a terrorist attack.

They will have to look at security in the hotels now. Seems very lax

That's not gonna happen, especially when you have festivals such as this one. Stopping sales of fucking rifles would be a good start.

I have never been able to get my head around the idea of civilians having the right to carry a gun, if they passed a law in the UK today allowing us to do the same i bet that less than 1% of the population would apply for it.

The 1% who did apply should then be locked up for everyone's safety.

if you don't have an underlying political aim or ideology you don't kill 50+ people.

Terrorist.

If only it were that simple. I wish guns were banned but it will never happen in America, too many people getting rich and fat off the industry. Apparently the hotels don't even have metal
Detectors on the doors.
