Shooting / Rioting in Paris

I don't understand this at all, what are they trying to achieve. Hurting ordinary people.

Looking at stuff like this utter lawlessness and the drug addicted homeless taking over cities like Vancouvers pavements makes you wonder if Orwell was right and we're headed for a dystopian future with strict laws similar to his book 1984.
Will things carry on getting worse ? It's looking like the system is broken.

What's happening in Paris is extremely sad.

But thats where we are heading and the extreme behaviour of those rioting will unfortunately drive the majority who are law abiding to want more totalitarian laws.

Im absolutely fine with people protesting but the behavior in 2011 in the UK and this in France is self defeating.

I'm sure they will show these scenes on state TV in the communist countries as proof that people in the west are not happy with life.

That is sort of where I'm coming from. The police should not have powers to shoot people just because they drive away. That affects all of us.
Absolutely, and most of the posters condoning this atrocity only do do in the belief it will never happen to them because they happen to be white in a majority white country.
They should know that when a precedent of lawless is condoned it eventually reaches and affects all of us regardless of heritage or background.

You can see the fear in this thread. People assumed I was defending this kid or condoning the rioters. They want these people shot. I'm sure they don't want to head towards being police states though.

I'm not so sure about condoning, but I reckon that what you are stating as a racial stereotype is actually more because the vast majority of people are law abiding, and wouldn't just drive away. Irrespective of race, or religion !

Most wouldn't but a lot, regardless of race or identity, do. Channel 4 is full of police reality shows where it happens frequently involving young men from many backgrounds, fortunately these incidents don't result in people getting shot to death, and rightly so.
The fact that this lad drove away from police doesn't point to an unusual culture of lawlessness among young people you wouldn't find anywhere else, but when a policeman feels justified in shooting someone at point blank range it does point to a culture of recklessness and high handedness in the ranks of the police authorities.
It is this attitude and culture that, in a democracy, cannot be condoned or accepted lest it become a new normal.

That's a lot of waffle. We are talking of a single incident, of which we have not heard the full story yet.
The shortage of the full story, baring in mind that the officer involved is under arrest, doesn't seem to stop you, or others of pointing to a dystopian future for all of us ! :-o
